Except for me.
Because I'd drown.
Metaphors are great.

I love this<3
It's a very inspiring metaphor.
Plus, it reminds me of when I took swimming lessons when I was little and the teacher had to drop me off the high dive because I was too scared to jump >u<.
I wasn't scared after and wanted to jump off again. XD

Thank you ♥
That's an awesome literal example!! Things always seem impossible or way too scary until they're done c:

There's a quote like this that I tend to like a little better! "Sometimes you have to jump out the window and learn to fly on your way down."

Do you know as children we a born know to swim. As a child I was thrown in the water, and automatically knew how to swim. But if you don't use it you lose it and will have to learn when you get older.

I must agree with this, I've found I needed to give myself a big challenge in order to learn something.

No, swimming is not an instinctive capacity, nobody would swim without being taught.

The message isn't necessarily intended to be taken literally. My responses to other comments explain the metaphor more fully if you're interested. c:
And actually, babies have been shown to have the instinctive capacity to swim when put into water - even if that inherent ability is lost as we grow older, I still don't think you have to be taught how to swim. It's common sense (if you aren't just panicking) to hold your body horizontally to float better and use your legs and cupped hands to propel yourself in a certain direction.

Babies instinctively are able how to hold breath and enjoy being underwater, but they can't swim. Plus, even human swimming styles are a kind of art. To swim, humans have to get used to a completely different perception, balance and environiment. Instinctively, in water a person moves arms and legs in all direction with panic and adrenaline, trying to stay on the sufrace, then drowns. This in any age, if they're not taught.

I'm sure those are very fair points but as I said before, the message is not meant to be literal. It's a metaphor pertaining to life, and how sometimes you have to just throw yourself into big and seemingly-impossible challenges before realising you can succeed. The 'deep end' isn't a literal pool of water, it's a metaphor for feeling out of your depth.
