The church is nothing more than a group of sinners depending solely on God's grace.

Like a fiend of mine always says "It is the largest sect there, but as it is official, we have to accept their strengths and weaknesses. And surely has virtues, but I do not see"

The point of the verse is that God should have priority over money (or any material things) in out lives. We can serve God with our money, or talents, or time, or anything else He has blessed us with. Thanks for commenting!

Thanks for replying..Β I think the verse actually just says that it's impossible to live a life in service to God, and chase financial success, at the same time. As others have pointed out, history has shown that this is perhaps not entirely accurate. : )
But more interestingly, do you really believe God grants us all these blessings, even money, just so we can use them in His service? What would be the point of such service? Of such a God?

Sure, I think God blesses us in different ways and we should serve God with the blessings He gives us. Jesus said in Luke 10:27 "Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind". Our heart/soul/strength/mind all come from God, and Jesus said we should love God with all of those things. The next part of the verse says to "Love your neighbor as yourself." So we are expected to love God and love others with all of the resources we have. I hope that makes more sense. Thanks again for commenting and sharing your feedback!

I can see what the Bible says.. I just don't understand the sense of it.Β Love of God is spiritual.Β One's life and God's other blessings clearly belong to the worldly domain. Wouldn't it make sense for service to God to take the form of accepting those blessings, and making the most of the life He has given? The joy of the craftsman is to see his creation prosper. If financial success follows naturally, this does not preclude love of God, nor does it imply a preoccupation with greed.

There is nothing wrong with financial success, and the Bible never says that money is evil, only the love of money is. Money is a creation, and God wants us to love the Creator above the creation. You are right though that God wants us to prosper, and that is why He blesses us with different things. Its up to us whether we are going to chase after the blessings or chase after the One who gave us those blessings. I did not intend to start a debate about God with this image, I just wanted to show a visualization of that Bible verse. Thanks again!

That's alright.. I didn't mean to start a debate either. You could say I'm one of those who chases God's blessings without a thought for God. I just don't have that sort of background. But I'm curious about those who do. Thanks for humoring me! : )
