You said watercolor on gesso. What surface is the gesso on?

I just did a series of acrylic landscapes on gessoed watercolor paper. But the gesso gives it lots of texture. I suppose that you'd get less gesso texture on canvas.

on illustration board (and it is transparent gesso that I lay on the drawing)

I haven't worked with illustration board for years! About 32 years to be exact...

I hadn't really worked on it much until taking classes either, mainly having worked on watercolor paper.

Very accurate! I love how the colours are really vivid and highly contrasted, and the green-yellowish background just adds up to that. ^^ I'm not sure whether I would remember Lorca from a photograph, but I'm certain your painting would make anyone recognise him.

amazing! the shading differentiation between the two sides of his face, and the splayed background are especially notable points, and the poem really adds interest and weight to the piece and composition.

Beautiful! The resemblance is perfect! And that's a beautiful poem (El Soneto de la Dulce Queja), which I love!!

Tengo miedo a perder la maravilla
de tus ojos de estatua y el acento
que me pone de noche en la mejilla
la solitaria rosa de tu aliento....

Well, coming from someone like yourself who knows the man and his work (I actually only knew his name from the Tim Buckley album name), I appreciate that!

Ken,
I know/saw now a lot of your work. And I cant really tell you what changed - but, oh man, your work is getting even more FABULOUS !!! It is hard to explain - but it seems, your work went to another dimension (hope that makes sense in english )
Anyway - your work is just gorgeous!
You make me want to take my watercolors out again ...

aw, thanks very much! I think, with these last two pieces, I am loosening up a bit. Doing a style like this works for some projects and doesn't for others, but I am having fun with these.

well, and I think having fun doing artwork - or anyway - is important for an artist
