Description I'm trying to train my sense of back lighting and contrast ... use dark color in a right way is really difficult....Orz
the full size looks ok... but the thumbnail somehow looks terrible =__=

I actually prefer the lineart bit more, here is the link [link]

Thank you for os-cordis, they cos this scene for me in Melbourne Manifest 2011 [link] it was soooooooooo awesome!!!

book3. Ep.56 The Southern Raiders is the episode that I can't understand most:
why they use a revenge story as the end of the preparation before making the final "justice" strack. ( Ep57 "The Ember Island Players" is more like a whole show review, almost nothing matter with the main story line.)

I can understand Zuko helps sokka to rescue his father.
but I can't understand why he helps Katara to make a revenge, and it took place right before the final war, I mean they should be mature already by then cuz they are going to play the hero role very soon. This revenge makes me doubt their righteousness. ( although Aang said something rational...)
in the end of the ep. Katara says that she don't know if she's too weak to kill the man or strong enough not to... it feels like power is the way to judge justice...

you could argue that they need this to learn Forgiveness, and finally accept Zuko. but no matter what the result is... dose that means at the beginning Zuko intent to gain his forgiveness by sacrificing an other person's life?

I know it's pretty radical thoughts, but I couldn't think in a more reasonable way.
I'm not blaming the character, I'm just feel a bit confused by the episode itself.

so... therefore I come up with this scene that Zuko trys to stop Katara from being dizzy with anger. and makes another way to let her rage out.

anyway, these are all my unserious thoughts. hope they could learn the true meaning of Forgiveness and Zuko could forgive his sister afterwords ( <--hey, this is your real point, right?...XDDD)

Adore this work. I have to agree with your comment, The Southern Raiders left a lot to be explained and I wish the writers would have elaborated more on Zuko/Katara's relationship.

Honestly, I thought the episode was there so that Katara could get closure, or at least a taste of it. Because if you've noticed, the entire show had a reoccurring theme that went back to her mother, so it was only rational to add an episode that could help Katara with that.
Also, the really big thing in that episode that connected to the series final fight was when Zuko asked Aang at the end, "What're you gonna do when you face my father?" That question really got the views, as well as Aang thinking deeply about it.

I like this so Zuko is a little...short compared to Katara who is near his height
and Zuko is typically pretty tall

Well done picture but in your comments I think you ignore an essential aspect of Zuko and Katara's characters. That is that both aren't all that against killing someone they believe deserves to die. Aang is really the odd one out as he was the only person who didn't believe in killing (even the past avatars said he should be willing to). Not that Aang is wrong necessarily, but what Zuko and Katara did was not at all hypocritical.

Hmmm...that revenge thing might be able to be explained a little like this (I'll do my best) I think in Avatar, Zuko and Katara had so much in common despite thier differences. I think he felt so ashamed and so sorry for betraying Katara after he found out that she lost her mother like he lost his (in a way that wasn't justified) and after changing for the better, I think he was trying to bring justice to the loss of Katara's mother (which wasn't justified either). In a way, maybe he felt like he was avenging his mother too, and all innocent lives that were lost due to the fire nation. I think Zuko meant well by what he was doing (in his own way...we all still love him lol)

yes, all you explanation is acceptable, but if we looking at the whole picture, it's a revenge after all, which means to use a death to compensate some other death .. but in this way, true peace will never come.

It's really understandable for a normal person doing this, but they are not normal person then, they are hero who are going to restore the peace of world very soon. if they still couldn't get ride of their personal resentment at that stage, how could they possible help the world. I mean, I'm not say the revenge plot is wrong, but even if it could happened in easy stage of the show, it would be more acceptable.

again, I'm not blame the character, I just questioning the story line.

Oh wow I love the way you drew the clothing folds! And the colors you picked are just beautiful. I also really like how it looks like the light is hitting them from trees above them as well as behind them. It's a lovely effect. <3
