That's really too bad! Wolves are so beautiful and lovely, I would have been just as excited to see that one at the zoo as you were.
You should go to the Alaska zoo, if you get the chance . Their wolf exhibit isn't that big, and they have about six wolves, so it's really hard to miss them !

that does sound great : D although where i live is like, secluded and far away from all these great places. V'B
id have to make it like, a vacation for myself xD but thankyou for letting me know!

Of course ! And it really is ! There are porcupines, and yaks, and Siberian tigers, polar bears, grizzly bears (whenever they walk, their claws make a clicking noise, which is really fun to listen to !), and moose ! Oh, and coyotes ;D! I've seen the porcupines stick their head out of their chain-linked cage, and grab some plants right outside of their habitat ! It's so cool ! And I bet you would love it . There are also caribou, and you can see their young... sometimes they'll come right up to the fence to see you ! It really is incredible !
But that's too bad that you live in a place like that... but you'll get the chance to see more sights !

porcupines? : D i dont think ive seen one in real life...how big are they?
XD and thats so cool! so they must be very close to the audience then if you can hear their claws i assume?
i havent seen any caribou either...this sounds like a nice little place c:
oh yes, ill see it all one day >]

Porcupines are about as big as a house cat, except not as long and more pudgy XP. It also depends on their diet, of course XD. Some laze around and become super chubby... though it's kinda adorable XP. But to match their size better, a porcupine would be as big as a toaster, or a big computer screen... okay, their about a foot tall, and a foot long... Well, they look like their taller because of their quills, so they would actually be about half a foot high .
Yeah, it was always really cool, because the exhibit for the grizzly bears is huge, but the bears will still come down by where the people are, who have an outlook on a raised platform, and patrol the border of their territory !
It is really phenomenal ! There's a petting zoo, and the animals are totally sweet. Just beware of geese, because they'll come around, and everyone knows geese have a terrible temper XP.

that sounds super damn cute. : D
toaster? XD ohmygosh. i wanna see one.
thats really amazing. if only animals at our zoo would do that >:
GEESE. ohgod geese. they scare the shit out of me.
one time me and my friend went to the zoo, and a goose started following us. he wasnt happy. so we fast walked onto a bridge, and on the other side another goose started to come towards us. we were trapped. i almost started to cry. XD
thankfully an old man and his grandson who just passed us on the bridge before the goose got on came back and shooed them away for us. such a gentleman<3 even though he was laughing his ass off.

hahahaha, just don't get freaked out if they don't look exactly like a toaster... now I want to draw a porcupine/toaster hybrid XP.
It really is adorable <3!
I know, right? I was so lucky to be able to go there :"3.
hahaha, yeah, they're freaky. prolly one of the smallest creatures that can really stick it to people XP
geez, they planned it all. a geese posse !!
oh, that man was a lifesaver. geeze probably were super disappointed though XP.
well, at least he saved you. I think that's what counts XDD.
Though I probably would have been angry... or laughing... or- nevermind.

ugh i want to reply to this
and i'm so sorry i'm incredibly lazy with replies

i'm even worse honestly, and this conversation is so much fun
but i think we were still talking about geese
that are literally most likely the scariest creatures in the entire world
and the only animal that is actually malevolent

asdjkf they planned it out like assassins
except
not even hitmen
are as notorious/infamous

haha I like this.. zoos are a pretty hard place to see wolves sometimes..A really nice place to interact is a wolf center if you have any near your area. You'd be able to see them if not too hot and even go in with them in some places. VIP tours like that tend to be a little pricy but it's worth it. My first wolf encounter was at Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Divide,CO. I went there twice and years later did an Internship there. Awesome stuff cept you miss the wolves like crazy when not there if you get to know them

a wolf center? ive actually never heard of it :\ so i assume we dont have any that close..
although, i do really want to research it now. it sounds like such a lovely place!

AgentAragorn In reply to KeitiWolf [2011-11-24 05:58:20 +0000 UTC]

It is! I haven't been to any other wolf centers but there are quite a few within the US.. not sure what state you.re in but you can always search for one near you and check em out =3 most have websites too

KeitiWolf In reply to AgentAragorn [2011-11-26 19:20:13 +0000 UTC]

ill definitely have to remember to research for one around here! i would just love to go to one, so much c: the problem is, no one i know likes wovles as much as me, so with my luck id end up going alone or forcing a friend to go with me and pretend to like it LOL.
i actually just did a quick research of it. wat state do you live in? the ones i found are very far away from Ohio..

AgentAragorn In reply to KeitiWolf [2011-11-27 07:41:28 +0000 UTC]

I lived in Colorado when I was at the center.. it was called Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, I now live in Texas though..haven't researched into any in this state yet

I know what you mean. There's no way to explain how wolves can affect you. I used to own a few, and they were the most incredible animals I've ever had..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KeitiWolf In reply to MatrixPotato [2011-11-13 04:02:37 +0000 UTC]

youre such a lucky person. i would love to own some c:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatrixPotato In reply to KeitiWolf [2011-11-13 14:05:19 +0000 UTC]

Well where I used to live, wolves were considered dogs, so I knew a lot of people who owned them, which made me think that I wasn't as lucky as I thought. But then there were people who didn't own them because of parents or things like that..
I think you can own wolves anywhere, with the right documentation and licensing. Where I live now, you have to have proof that they aren't purebred wolves, so we're trying to keep our wolfdog a secret, because we have none yet. xD

KeitiWolf In reply to MatrixPotato [2011-11-17 06:27:42 +0000 UTC]

i thought i replied to this? ohwell. dumb computer..
anyways, its kind of funny to hear how much different two places can be!
ive never seen anyone who has had a wolf as a pet around here. i feel like if they did, theyd be shamed upon by everyone. like if it were a pitbull :\ although either way, its still dumb to judge an animal by its reputation. like, i havent met one bad pitbull yet! not one, out of the tens to twenties i've met. im sure wolves would be the exact same way.
is it true they eat meat instead of dog food though? xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatrixPotato In reply to KeitiWolf [2011-11-17 07:57:28 +0000 UTC]

I know, people think that certain dog breeds are bad because of their experience, but in all honesty and truth, it's never the animal. It's always the owner.
Wolves are much more gentler and A LOT shyer than you hear about..if someone they don't know is in the house, they hide in the smallest most confined and most far away place from that person. It's kind of funny but also kind of sad..But once they get attached to someone, they love you forever<3..
We fed our wolves raw chicken in the morning and kibble in the afternoon, so I guess it's kinda true. But not all wolf owners feed them raw meat, lol. But just to be clear, the whole "if you feed your dog/wolf raw meat, it'll make them mean" thing is false. It's not about the meat at all, it's about food aggression and dominance.

KeitiWolf In reply to MatrixPotato [2011-11-26 19:25:22 +0000 UTC]

ah yes! : D exactly. people dont understand that..and my mom being one of them.
thats why i want to get a pitbull, specifically to prove her wrong.
wtf really? D: thats kind of really shocking. id of thought it would attack to defend its territory, haha. but i love animals who do that.<3 its so funny. i had a basset hound that would run up on the steps (facing the door) and hide behind the wooden things barking, like the person couldnt see her. i loved that dog c:
and i also love when animals get attached like that~ to only certain people. it makes it more cherish-able.
raw chicken doesnt sound awful either..i was thinking like, expensive cooked steak every day 3x a day. so thats a lot better!
and yeah, i see wat you mean c: its weird how many false rumors are being made of these animals nowadays..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatrixPotato In reply to KeitiWolf [2011-11-26 21:43:14 +0000 UTC]

Adults tend to want to believe what they've been told all their lives; they don't like change.
I hope you do end up getting one. C:
Lol yeah. Because of stories like Little Red Riding Hood the wolf is made out to be a viscous attacker, when really it's just a shy fluff ball. My old dog used to do that; Hide somewhere completely visible and bark. xD
Also, if you raise a wolf from birth, it never forgets you. We had to give our wolves away for a long time, and when we saw them again, they glomped us like we'd just gotten back from the store or something..
LOL It's not really healthy to feed wolves or any kind of dog cooked steak. Steak bones might be the only type of bones that don't splinter after being cooked, but they still can, which makes raw the better choice. The bones break like glass instead of splintering.
It is weird, and sad. But at least the wolf still has fans. C:

and thankyou<3 perhaps one day c:
and yes i agree. its funny though, because everyone on deviantart seems to understand wat wolves really are and are over obsessed with saving them, so i assumed a lot of the world was too. apparently not? it always just throws me off.
XD and thats cute.
that is so amazing. D: im so jealous!!
thatsss pretty weird. ive never thought of it like that, nor have i considered it. definitely be easier and less time consuming though xD

I know exactly what you mean >< but at our zoo its usually the otters that get all the attention, no one seems to notice the wolves as much, but its kinda that same thing, theres just so much space! Neat how the one you made looks like the ones I've seen at the zoo that nice pale grey with a bit of darker grey Love that nose to hand one ^_^

KeitiWolf In reply to Fireside-Bestiary [2011-11-10 12:05:02 +0000 UTC]

thats actually kinda funny when i think about it xD the otters here are no interest to people except me (because they remind me of ferrets so i love them LOL) and they have a little baby exhibit. although they were cleaning it when i went so i didnt see them this time :c
and thanks dear! i actually tried to remember the actual wolf's markings, but all i remember was that it was whiteish with a tad of light gray in it xD so i went with it!
and i kept my hand there for the longest time~<3 but thanks again :3
