Description Hey! Sorry if I'm inactive and all, but I haven't really been given the liberty to do anything of interest. (well, at least nothing unrelated to academics)

I'm working on my AP art portfolio some more this year, and I'll be illustrating various pieces for my concentration. I call it the Stranger series: a compilation of surrealistic portraits that involves the study of human anatomy, emotion and different elements.

I'll try to update with stuff when I can ahaha.

This is the first that I call "Absence"in the set.

"Sometimes the moment appears fleeting and evanescent, and everything begins to erode away in front of you like nothing existed."

Graphite medium. 2B Mechanical Pencil.
16in. x 20in. Bristol Board.

This piece is a very stunning, gripping piece of work. The technique used in this picture makes it seem like there has been digital editing done here, yet there is not. I applaud you for this feat. Your vision behind this piece is depicted very well, and overall the ideas behind it are very original. One small critique I can provide though, is that I think you may have put a little too much of the smoke looking effect on this picture in the neck region. It obscures the work that is hidden beneath it, and makes that area look a bit messy to be honest. As they say, less is more. I'd just recommend putting some critical thought into the textures you add into pictures like this in the future and add just enough to get the effect you're looking for without making it too much. If it doesn't need to be there, then don't put it there. Otherwise though, I think you did a really great job on this picture, congratulations.

Darkness. Not so much evil, cruelty or suffering but it seems to me like darkness you've created. Distilled and pure or the essence of darkness, you could say. With me personally, this rings on an elemental note. A rare find.

Much like the critique before me I wonder if the smoke is coming or going, however, I feel it is not as important to see but would have made a nice touch. I don't know what you meant by this but I see darkness and man. Is it darkness that infects the man? A tribute to the fall from perfection? Or Darkness man spews? A political statement of how man destroys everything he touches and twists nature around him? Either way there is the man and his smoke. For all I know you've got a smoker friend you got inspiration from and thought it be "neat". lol It would be nice to know but the image is powerful enough on its own with out a story line so I gave it 3.5 stars

A problem I have is that I tend, without meaning to, to make every thing squared away just so and perfect when I draw. Rigid in creation, you could say. I leave out little details that give personality like 'wear and tear'. I say this to point out how much I appreciate, not some much the attention to detail, in this case but the free reign I feel like you have while drawing. The large bald spot where the ear should be, the wrinkled nose from a snarl. Touches of personality for a lack of better words.

On technique there is so little say. Absolutely fabulous. The hair, the bones, smoke, muscles, flesh, all of it. It all comes together like a BOSS. The level of detail is almost painful to look at. I am in awe.

When I first saw this it grabbed me in a heart beat. It Resonated, it snuck a small feeling a panic in my chest for a second. Made me think if he would be screaming if only he had lungs at this point. I would put this on my wall in my home to look at every day if it were a print. But with a lacking background of what is happening I wouldn't say I'd think about it all day, but I'd sure stare at it for a long while. lol So I gave 4 stars on Impact.

And I'm serious about that print business ;]

The first thing that strikes me when I see this is the astounding amount of detail that is in every inch the drawing. From the cracks in the bones to the translucent muscle fibers in the neck, it is breath taking when I think about how much time it must of taken you to draw all the layers of shadows and shading and leaves me envious of your exceptional abilities.

Now, the actual idea of the picture leaves me wondering whether the figure is being disassembled or forming itself from the apparent vapors that is surrounding it, which neither a good nor bad, though if it were slightly more apparent it may of added a little bit more of a story to it.
My next critique is simple, and really more a personal thought for you to consider: A small splash of color.
Whether it be the iris or perhaps the muscle fibers, a little something that brings attention to the apparent and wonderful amount of detail you so very capable of producing might add just that extra factor.

Regardless of my personal preferences, I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Think that proves it. I reported it, and I suggest that a lot of other people do it to. I don't like people who steal other's work and claim it as their own.

MADD about it! No joke... Perfect match of realism -expressed by the shuffled hair and expressive eye- and surrealism - captured in the spiriling smoke and internal perspective of human body.

I think you do well in the AP Portfolio. You did this concept well and fast. I took weeks to do paintings XD.

I remember mine, and it was really mostly stress ful, because we switched teachers suddenly, and we were pushed alot to do alot more.
