Description The first snow of the season must be something really exiting. I wouldn't know because I've never seen snow in my life. But I can imagine.

This is giftart for , it's someting I've been meaning to finish for ages - I've had the sketch for about 3 weeks, and the idea for over a month, but I kept putting off colouring it. Making decent backgrounds take so long... Anyway, I'm happy with how it came out, she has such a cute fursona.

Please comment before you favourite. Critique is loved as usual.

This looks soooooo good! I especially love the background; backgrounds done well can add so much to a picture you don't realise!

I love the really subtle shading you've done on the beige and the darkness of the wood contrasting against the snow is so realistic and beautiful! Great jooowb!!! ^^

Thanks! Yeah, a good background can really enhance a picture, I do try and do a decent one now and then.

Wow, the kids had a comment FEST on this one! Yaaaay attentionnnn XD

Love the colours in this, makes me want to snuggle up with a warm Milo and a good long book ^_^

Um, the only thing that creeps me a bit is her face.. there's something not quite about it.. Someone already pointed out the ear (I forget to draw ears on! XD) I think it might be the nose/muzzle.. it seems to be coming out of a different perspective than the eyes and the mouth =/ I guess if you moved the nose centrally to the right a bit it would look more correct (for want of a better word).

Yuh, that'll do OMGYOURTREESARESEXY!! Give me your trees DX

Haha, I didn't know what to do with the trees, so I scribbled. I can't believe how much attention this piccah is getting either. xD And I reply to every single comment.

Hehe, drawing muzzles is still a bit of a challange, so I'll watch out for that next time.

I don't know what it is with me and snow... Especially as it's getting warmer now. Hurry up summer!!

I guess snow is just fun to draw. (It's a damn sight easier then grass anyway. )

It's funny how backgrounds turn out so good, when I actually... try to make one. And don't add it in at the last minute.

Thanks so much!

Thankyou!! I actually did the background before I even coloured the character this time, it seems to make a big difference to how it turns out.

derpdawg In reply to Kazzi-Kins [2007-11-07 12:15:14 +0000 UTC]

Did you make the background in OpenCanvas? (That application is the sex for backgrounds and colouring 8D)

Kazzi-Kins In reply to derpdawg [2007-11-07 12:45:58 +0000 UTC]

No, I used photoshop, but I know what you mean - OC is fantastic for backgrounds. I really should use it more.

derpdawg In reply to Kazzi-Kins [2007-11-07 12:48:22 +0000 UTC]

Oh master, teach me how to colour like this in Photoshop D: *bows*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kazzi-Kins In reply to derpdawg [2007-11-07 13:06:04 +0000 UTC]

-dies- Um... I dunno, lol! I just mess around until something works. You know those tools about halfway down the brush pallette, the ones that fade in and out with pen pressure instead of getting bigger/smaller? Well I use those to shade. They give such a soft, painty effect. Just start really lightly and build up. Oh, and when you're shading make sure to use complimentary colours, like shading something pink with a slightly more purple-y pink, it just looks nicer. You can't really see that here, but take a look at Chasing Twilight, it's probably the best example I have of that.

As far as the background goes, I used mostly those brushes again, and just used the harder ones for the grooves in the tree-bark. I just... kinda... played with it till it looked right.

Oh, I love those fading brushes! Although I only have a slightly old version of Photoshop Elements. :[

I don't have any critiques that haven't been said already, though. Great job, the character really fits into the background. (:

Oh my gosh, Kazzi!!

This is so sweet of you to do! I was totally surprised (and I love nice surprises) XD

Your style is just adorable.. you drew my fursona wonderfully. I really really like her expression and pose - lots of life. The fluff is adooorable.

And the background is just so well done and adds so much to the picture! I love the marks you have drawn in the tree - really makes a difference and they look really nice. The patches of ground showing through the snow are also a great, realistic touch.

Thank you so much again!! I love it. It was such a nice surprise and it's really made my day.

cuuute!!! I love the expression! The only critique I have is more a crit of style, her right ear seems a bit high and forward compared to the other which seems slightly unnatural to me. <3 anyway love it!

I really love the sharp shading on the trees, and the eyes. ^^

I noticed the shading on the critter's front left leg is reversed in the white area, from where it is in the brown... There's my weak attempt at constructive crits. n_n;;
