Did you make the background in OpenCanvas? (That application is the sex for backgrounds and colouring 8D)

-dies- Um... I dunno, lol! I just mess around until something works. You know those tools about halfway down the brush pallette, the ones that fade in and out with pen pressure instead of getting bigger/smaller? Well I use those to shade. They give such a soft, painty effect. Just start really lightly and build up. Oh, and when you're shading make sure to use complimentary colours, like shading something pink with a slightly more purple-y pink, it just looks nicer. You can't really see that here, but take a look at Chasing Twilight, it's probably the best example I have of that.
As far as the background goes, I used mostly those brushes again, and just used the harder ones for the grooves in the tree-bark. I just... kinda... played with it till it looked right.

Oh, I love those fading brushes! Although I only have a slightly old version of Photoshop Elements. :[
I don't have any critiques that haven't been said already, though. Great job, the character really fits into the background. (:

cuuute!!! I love the expression! The only critique I have is more a crit of style, her right ear seems a bit high and forward compared to the other which seems slightly unnatural to me. <3 anyway love it!

I really love the sharp shading on the trees, and the eyes. ^^
I noticed the shading on the critter's front left leg is reversed in the white area, from where it is in the brown... There's my weak attempt at constructive crits. n_n;;

I really like this expression, it's great! Although, why is there a bow at that location on the tail?
