She was golden retriever, and we think great pyrenenes; possibly white lab. A beautiful dog both outside and especially inside. She would have laid her life down for me.
Cherish the moments; don't take it for granted. The times goes by so unbelievably fast! (I did have her 16 wonderful years though; since she was 2 months old.

I really do cherish the moments, Buddy is only two ish at the moment. But the older dog (the brownish one!) Star, is nearing 16. We feel she might be going in the next few weeks

Aww hon I feel do deeply for you...
Nothing I can say can ease that worry I know; but one thing I will say is, be selfLESS. If you think at all she might be in pain or suffering in any way.
That was a choice hubby and I had to make; it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life but my love for her wouldn't let me be selfish...
If you could have seen her face, the 'expression' in her eyes as hubby was taking her away and I was talking to her. I'll never forget it for as long as I live; never saw a dog look that way in my life. It was so apparent to me that she 'knew'; but what struck me so much was the look was that one gets when they are sad....like when one knows they wont ever see that person again.
I know too without doubt she knew we were acting out of love; and she was good with it. - again, it was obvious...So weird how animals can communicate feelings to us with their looks when we're tuned in...
Knowing she was at peace with it gives me great comfort to remember; and helped me tremendously through the adjusting period.

It's really tough isn't it - especially as the people around you, often don't understand the depth of emotion e.t.c involved. To so many it's 'just' a pet. But in this case, and I'm sure in lots of cases these pets have been members of a family for years and years!
I don't think she's in pain at the moment, her tail is still going ferociously, and she's enjoying her food, her water and generally snuffling around as usual. We haven't properly walked her in a long time, Buddy goes alone now, because she just struggled with her hips...but we don't think there's deep pain there as such. We're going to the vet to get her checked out anyway just to be sure. She had Kidney failure in November last year and we were told to say goodbye then! We've been blessed with this extra time
That is such an expression to remember isn't it. I was with both my previous dogs when they had to be put to sleep, the first I was only ten but I insisted on going. I like to think the expression is a bit of a goodbye, and a bit of a 'thank you' for letting me go. At least that's a comforting thought like you say, that they are at peace

Chances are she is not in pain; but dogs won't really let you know a lot of the time; so I'm happy you are taking her to the vet to make certain!
Lacey; what happened to her was literally over night (well I'm sure it wasn't but that's when we found out).
Apparently, her uterus worked it's way outside of her body, and was just hanging there from the tube attaching it to her insides.
All leading up to this this, and during, she still acted her happyish self. Although when I look back there were what I'd say 'moments'..but nothing she really complained about...just sleeping a lot...but she was 16, that's to be expected. It was so upsetting beyond belief to see; you just never want to see your pet in that state trust me! Such a mix of heavy emotions...
I just can't believe she kept it to herself like that; she had to have been in pain at SOME point...
But yes,...just...it's very good you are taking her to the vet first to make certain. Good luck with her.
