Description
I first noticed the black-tail buck resting in an old goat shed on my property almost a week ago - I've looked almost every day since then and...there he was! I was beginning to get worried that he was injured or ill since I'd never seen one in there for so many days in a row
So today I kept watch near sundown...and I was rewarded with this view 
He seems to be fine - just hanging in the shade as we've had a week of warmer than seasonal weather

I think you're right about the antler - don't know if it is broken or just had the velvet badly scuffed... he wasn't too concerned with me taking his picture but I was sitting on a 2nd story deck so not much of a threat

What's going on with his right antler? And I do see some kind of spot on his left side, but that may just be where he was biting at flies biting him.

I think he scuffed or injured the velvet on that branch...he was walking around and eating fine last night so I'm not worried any more (and he was back in the box today

Me too - though I'm wondering if his presence is going to change how the does use our property once their fawns come - usually we're the nursery with a handful of mamas and babies
