Description I named this flattery because it is an imitation of Claude Monet and was started in acrylic and completed using Corel Painter X

Merci, mon ami! No doubt the grads from the Canton art schools do better, the failures work for Halliburton designing safety valves for BP.

Well...damn. I can't say much else. You are quite the landscape artist! What all did you do to it with Corel?

katu01 In reply to PyroJames421 [2010-06-08 02:58:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, Pyro Did a pencil outline on canvas, used acrylic for sky, trees, background, and foreground fill. Photographed it and finished details and shading in Corel. 2 trips to the art store, unexpected company, and a dishwasher fire ended the mood. It was finished without the completed brook It lacks Monet's vibrancy and contrast, but this was for learning; deciding what's next.

Dishwasher...fire? O-o

And I thought I had issues when I put regular dish soap in the dishwasher.

it's not Monet, but a very striking and beautiful work. Inspires me to get off my ass and learn some new programs. i you, and would tip my hat if i could find the right emoticon.

Still, I felt more comfortable giving credit where due; it is a copy of Monet's style. As for learning new programs, I'm familiar with Corel Painter, but understand that is not an endorsement. Corel is raster and I push it to do vector style look-alikes as well as traditional textures and shading not possible with vector software; I know many of its limits and ways to get a blue screen with a single command - you've heard me kvetsching in the past. I appreciate your kind praise and wish you the best selecting new programs

I wanted to dedicate it to you, but it is a practice piece and not up to the level I'd feel comfortable offering to you, honored friend. As I said to V&W, every age has its creative masters and you are indeed there for this age as well as my mentor and conscience. Thank you

I know this painting (the original) and if I had a cool million, it might hang in my study. As you said, this version is a wider field, but, Jeffrey pines, split rail fence, no village cathedral; you Western infidel, you. As you said, you wanted to see if you could do better than the dumpster divers and I believe you aced it. Please forego the chubby lady with almond eyes, I'm just beginning to read you.

There are times when software / tablet drivers and displays conspire to lock up, pepper a work with odd pixellations and artefacts and this had reached that stage. Yes, I was lazy, needed some objects to frame the left side of the image and have no trouble painting pines, fence-lines, and the vagueness filled in by the eye. For me, looking back at my stuff as a critic is my true avocation and Monet - though gone, will forever be a venerable mentor. Uploading a piece is like letting go of your kids when they're convinced it is time though, in honesty, you are certain that moment will never arrive. Learned a lot with this piece and have a long way to go venturing into techniques new to me. As for the chubby lady with almond eyes, thought it might be fun to place her in a Gauguin-style setting and package it as perfectly as do Chinese merchants. Sincere thanks, V&W
