I won't lie, I know the feeling of nearly falling off a ledge. Not a snowy ledge, but a ledge all the same.

Fantastic colour use and the details on the husky! I would work a bit on the contrast and values though, especially to "pop" the characters out. I don't know if SAI has the same image adjustments as Photoshop, but I always flatten the image at the end and duplicate it so I can play around with the lights/shadows, color balance and so on. Try and use the "Auto tone" or "auto contrast" and even "auto color" to see how photoshop changes the tones in the picture. Then if you are not happy with it, undo and start putting values that put light on your characters or even background. Play around with the tools, you will have fun! Sorry if most of this didn't make sense, I hope I helped somehow..

I played with the contrast a lot, but I just kept going back to low contrast and richer colors.

Oh I see!
Usually a layer of linear light (low fill, around 40% or so, depends how you like it) and drawing on some bits on the character's faces to pop them out can be useful.

You really have a good eye for detail and it's fun to experiment around with painting.

I'm sorry if you weren't expecting constructive crit, by the way! I couldn't help it c:

It's perfectly fine! I really appreciate it, I had been looking at this too long to think about it clearly @_@

I am glad to hear that, Kat! Usually people seem to be a bit ticked off when it comes to constructive crit and they take it in a bad way.

When working on a big picture, you should rest your eyes every one hour or two. (look outside the window, browse around for inspiration maybe, look at photos or just take a breath of fresh air from outside. Believe me, it helps a lot!)

Colours are great So soft - suits the theme of an image the best.

man it can't be easy to hold a wolf-dog with one hand while hoisting most of your body weight with the other.

I was going to add a lot more motion, as is the two of them just slipped over the edge and he was grabbing at anything he could possibly reach, but I got bored with the painting. Heh
