could you explain some of your process for using these textures? I'm really digging the texture work and I'm wanting to get more out of my illustrator works.

Sure, I'll try to break it down Note, I only started Illustrator 9 months ago so this might not be the most efficient way to do it, but here goes. I basically took a texture into Photoshop to recolor it or desaturated it, depending on your needs. I then brought it into Illustrator and whichever shape I wanted to texture, I duplicated the shape and created a clipping mask over the texture layer. Then I set the texture layer to multiply or screen (or whichever other layer mode you want, it's good to play ) and there you go! It took a while since every shape in the whale was textured and each required its own mask. I hope this helps!

Nice

How did you make the sunbeams on the background?

Thanks It was a comination of a gradient background (from light to dark) and then I created the basic shapes in Illustrator, set them to blur, took down opacity and set it to a blending mode. . . Not sure exactly which one I used, maybe lighten or overlay, I always try them all out and see what works

The texture really makes this come together. You'll have to tell me how you worked that texture. Really great.

Thanks Dennis! I'll have to dive into it to refresh my memory but I believe it was just a matter of duplicating fills to create a texture layer and setting the blend mode appropriately I'm sure I also used PS to warp the color of the textures as well ^^
