Description "A velvet breath of life
enchants the garden of delight
Her voice within these winds
The flower so serene
Her cold and silent wail
Descend like midsummer rain
Bury my heart in thine
A taste of heavens wine"
- Tristania

I like the simplicity of the backdrop and your pose, and the purple in the wig looks phenominal. I love how your face gives it an air of innocence, it's very... refreshing? Hahah. I love the blue gen as well, it draws the viewers attention up to your eyes, which are so nice to begin with .

All in all, very lovely, Dear.

You certainly took it and ran with it! A very nice accomplishment with your new background. You've got the idea already.

The backshadows don't hurt this pic - one of the nice things about being dark and spooky is that shadows rarely look out of place - but that's the sort of thing for which you need the auxillary lighting I was talking about before. The only thing that gets rid of shadows... is light. If you want to try a shadow-free pic, you don't necessarily need a strobe, you could just find some sort of light to point at the backdrop while your flash illuminates you. One of those little clamp-on worklights they sell at Home Depot for $4.99 will work just fine. (They have chrome reflector bowls around them, they're usually in the paint department.) Be sure to get a proper color-balanced bulb for it, don't use a regular lamp bulb.

The lighting iwas using today was 2 holgen work lights on an adjustable tripod inteh front. one lgith refleting otn eh ciecling(white ciecling, mixed blessing), and the other facing me. Then i had a smaller lamp tilted downwar and at he backgroudn a bit behind the chiar. And the other 2 workligth wee from behidn as well. One was behidn teh backdrop itself,t he other casting lgith sideways acros teh back of it. I have problems putting lights behind the backdrop because its hangign from my cieclin gnad a few incsh out becaue i have a rdator behind it. Thus a bit of a space problem. I found the light behind it was more fo a spot ten genrialy diffused which botherd me. Ill look into those lights though, and maybe i an find them online. Ill keep using these lights for now,but i need a cheaper and non heat producing alternative. THe entire house lost electrisity be cause of my fans and lights i had on the other night. lol .

Also, i dont use flash on any of my photos. I *do* own Nikon's speedlight SB-50DX.
I dont have alot of expierance withit, however if u go into my gallery i used it for my
serpentineshiver (i think) series. But he battery life died on it withtin a week of play.
And CR123A 3V lithium batteries arnet somethign i see in the grocery store lol

*rumage* oh, i was sorting through my book shelf this morning and i thought maybe
you might enjoy 2 books i found.Id suggest picking up "Corrective light and posing twckniques for portrait phtogersh""by jeff smith, and "Master posing guide for portrait phtographers"by JD wacker.
There are some nice tidbits there. And they tackle down how to conseal problesm and highlight the features so on so forth.

I am a little bit frightened of what you will be able to accomplish when you have "real" photo lighting.

The halogen work lights (also known as "Home Depot Hotlights" ) are often used by photographers on a budget. I have some around here someplace but they just get too hot for me so I use some little strobes I have instead. Power draw is not a problem in my studio but I can see where it would be in a regular house. Another reason to use strobes. If you get some of those clamp light fixtures, you could also try putting color-balanced mini-fluorescent bulbs in them. MUCH cooler, use a third the electricity. That's all we use in our house in the regular light fixtures and I don't remember the last time we had to change a light bulb, they last for years.

You're right, those batteries are not something you buy at the grocery store. However, I got you covered. (Isn't it amazing how easy it is for me to spend other people's money?) You need CR 123A Li batteries according to Nikon's website. They ain't cheap. But take heart! You can buy a rechargeable battery in the same form factor. Here's one:

[link]

Comes as a kit with a battery and a charger. You can also buy a kit with two batteries. The same outfit also has standard Li batteries, $3.00 apiece in lots of 6 or more:

I've dealt with Thomas Distributing for years and the service and prices are topnotch.

Thanks for the book references. I'll keep an eye out for them.
