This it's maybe fun.
Encounter body and soul, and even the son into the bargain like that, yes.
In my opinion Virgil dormant (or fights it with his own shadow) in the shell Nelo Angelo.

That's not gonna work !
Even as Nelo Angelo, Vergil is still way stronger than Nero is... If he was able to pull the blade with his bare hands then he can probably stop it the same way.

My poor Nero! so does this mean that he won't be having his devil trigger if Yamato's extracted out of him? though he's fighting pretty good now I'm still scared of what may happen next.
His face in panel 2 is so heart-breaking. I really hope you don't kill Nero I mean he's a brat and all but we still love him, he's our little badass. Β

He may not be at Dante's level but there is no denying that Nero is a badass.Β Nice to see he still has the habit of calling people who stab him through the chest "jackass" even if Vergil is way cooler than Agnus.Β Really love the coloring with the faded green and red really creates a surreal feeling to the panelsΒ

Well if you need a humor I'm sure you could just throw in some incredibly awkward father-son bonding.Β In any case good thing Nero is there to step up until Dante can get ahold of himself

I really, really like what you've done here with the colors! it's all subtly disturbing, this ocre and mint green against the redish pink, and yet it works perfectly together to make it all feel spectral and very much alive at the same time; if that makes any sense. I might have a fever right now lmao.
The last panel is wonderful, too! so intense! and the details around the eyes is stunning *x* go bby Nero, go!Β

Oh lordy, angry DT'ed Nero, I love it! I really like how you only really give Nero fangs when he's angry and/or DTed. And is it just me, or is his DT a little more glowy than you drew it last time? If so, would this have to do with him being in Hell this time?
Man, now I'm realizing that somehow, even though its the same grayscale as usual, for some reason Nero seems to have a sort of pallor to his face. Congrats on that!

karaii In reply to atem-pharoah [2016-04-12 02:48:31 +0000 UTC]
Yeah! I guess maybe they really DID intend for Vergil's soul to be embedded in Yamato, exactly like a devil arm. Hence why Nero's DT looks heavily influenced by it.
I kind of really dig that -- Vergil's defeated soul having been turned into a functional devil arm via Yamato -- and if I were to do this comic again from the start, I'd probably go that route instead of the convoluted "he was summoned by Agnus but he's kind of human because his demon powers are locked in hell" plot I went with instead. Alas! XD One can only go forward!

GO GO NERO YOU BADASS BUB YOUΒ Β
*sits back and noms popcorn* anyone want some? Time for Mundus-Meanie to find out how strong the kiddo really is C: it's all in the blood, you know, everything stays in the family C:
And I'm still 150% sure that this Nelo isn't Vergil. Because Verge might've fallen for Mundus once upon a time, but this time he's got much more to fight for. I can't and won't accept that in his little black heart some spark of at least famillial bond didn't bloom when Dante and Nero nursed him back to health. Verge is proud to a fault, stubborn like hell (they both got that from their mama), all true, but I really believe that if he was given something to latch onto, to feel that he belongs somewhere, he wouldn't just give up to some misshapen-stinky-jelly blob with delusions of grandeur.
Can't wait for more, Karaii!Β Β

Totally innaccurate, we all know that clothes don't get damaged in DMC, just look at Dante after being impaled by Nero and Alastor. You're slipping Karaii.
On a more serious note I don't think yamato has much choice who wields it as I'm pretty sure it wouldn't like Sanctus or Agnus and it was able used by them. I think Nero's just learning from experience.Β
On another note are you choosing to represent Nero and Vergil's powers as more green on purpose? I know they typically go for blue but is this a stylistic choice like the like the tendency for black and white images?Β
Are you choosing green because it makes a good contrast with all the red?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
karaii In reply to VoidKnightGray [2016-04-12 00:28:12 +0000 UTC]
Hehe, yeah, I know clothes don't get ripped up in the game. They also really don't bleed very much? But I'm calling on artistic license! I love drawing blood and torn up garments *smirk* It's my comic and I do what I want, Thor!
Re: Yamato, I think it DOES actually have a bit of choice in who wields it, sort of like Alastor in DMC1? If you are worthy of it, which is up to the sword itself, then it will allow you to wield it to its maximum potential. It won't dimension-cut for just anyone. But it's still a sword at the end of the day, so even a human could theoretically use it to cut things. That's my head canon, anyway.
As for the "green not blue", you got it in one! I like how the red contrasts against the green best. I was getting annoyed at how many colours there were on the pages when I introduced the blue. See, originally I just wanted a black and white comic with maximum 1 extra color. That's why for about a hundred and fifty pages or so, the comic was pretty much grayscale with the eyes coloured. But then I got tired of seeing so much stark white and I decided to use a nice neutral green while drawing, and it kind of grew on me so I decided to keep it in the finished pages. Really made the characters pop without taking away too much attention.
But then Karaii got ambitious and started adding red and orange and blue and yellow and dear God, that was WAY TOO MANY COLOURS. I can't deal But I liked my neutral green, so the only colours that really go with it in a pacifically minimalist way (imo) are red accents and variations on the same green.
Still, I totally get why people are annoyed it's green and not blue. *shrugs* If it helps, imagine I'm colour blind and see green and blue the same way and ya'll just have to deal with my inability to differentiate blue.

VoidKnightGray In reply to karaii [2016-04-12 21:24:12 +0000 UTC]
I do appreciate it, though personally I will admit I am one of those people who tend to prefer the blues (favourite colour and all) and really found the blues aesthecially pleasing in the games (one of the reasons I like Nero so much his design). But I do see what you mean on the artistic front. For instance you made the aura behind Nero's Devil trigger red because the contrast would be very difficult to do right with just a single colour.Β
I originally thought the greens were a sign that Vergils power was different after the whole incident or it was evolving (jut like dante's Dt's glow differently between games) so having Yamato and Nero which I heavily associate with a almost electric blue go green brought it to my attention.Β
Okay, I'll give you that on the Yamato bit. Question is in your comic's canon where was Yamato while Vergil was Nelo Angelo? Was it transformed into Nelo's Zweihander and broken when Dante defeated him? Or was it broken by Mundus and was that blade a replacement? Could it have been something else?
π: 0 β©: 1
karaii In reply to VoidKnightGray [2016-04-12 21:54:52 +0000 UTC]
In this comic, the Yamato was broken when Vergil was defeated by Mundus at the end of DMC3. This was both symbolic and a physical manifestation of the breaking of Vergil's spirit, and the severing of his power. Mundus cast the broken Yamato aside and presumably it somehow made its way into the human world. How it did so is a fun mystery to contemplate. Meanwhile, Vergil was corrupted into his Nelo Angelo form in Hell. Nelo Angelo's Zweihander is not Yamato, but it IS a physical manifestation of what was left of Vergil's demonic power. It's his Devil Arm, I guess? Were he to be properly defeated and conquered, like any other strong-powered demon that leaves behind a Devil Arm, I like to think that's what would remain.
That's the logic this comic is following, anyway. Now that I've thought about it more over the years, I think Yamato is Vergil's Devil Arm. *shrugs* But the comic doesn't follow this idea. I wrote the plot in 2008 when I was 16, so it's been a while XD
