I always wanted to own a 77 or 78 Trans Am as a second car, but they are so difficult to find in decent, drive-able shape. All the ones I see are derelicts just rusting away.

Not wanting to badmouth them, but they really weren't build to last. Mostly because the companies wanted (and want?) you to keep buying a new one every few years...

I've seen some decent ones go for about 15k-20k USD, but they aren't painted in the black and gold.

Yeah for a restored one. Black and gold only really matters value-wise if its a Bandit Edition like the one above, with the pinstripes around it. Neither of which I could afford. I guess what I was saying was these seemingly exist in only 2 conditions where I live- Restored and near junk. No in-between.
