I think you did a great job here and really challenged yourself. The hair is marvelous with great body and highlight. What you have to decide early (and what is part of the trick) when doing this style is 'Where are your light sources?' In this image that is not clear. A tip&trick Shade the background at her profile dark and the back of her head lighter and watch the image pop. I'm honored that you were inspired by me. You'll do great with this style!

Did you see the original and how flat it is? The only shadows I'd managed to do were in the hair -_- I didn't realize how to fix my problem with shading until last month! So this was a good practice piece. I think I'll play around with your suggestion, since I didn't even think about light source while doing it.
I just looked up the reference shot I had originally used and the light source is full on the back of her head, with not many shadows to begin with. img209.imageshack.us/img209/25…
