That is an amazing way to crop a photo to suit the subject, makes this much more effective, otherwise it would just be 'A Turtle against the blue'

The concept of this turtle in the deep ocean
I see also how he still has small tags on his fins by enviroment orgs, Turtle moniters or something like that

Lovely use of negative space. I'm going to agree with `memod and suggest more sharpening. I'd also like it if the lighter blues on the turtle were more white.

I thought this was a digital painting until I read the description. I really love the crop. It adds to the effect of the turtle swimming through the depth of the ocean

aquaticusgenesis [2005-11-14 11:03:05 +0000 UTC]

Just incredible!! The framing choice is supurb and it just feels so...otherworldy, even when it isn't. You really captured a part of the world which is seldom captured so perfectly.

Awesome work! *favourites*

Great composition and overal photography, youre the first one to post underwater photo's as far as I have seen on DA.
I also like how the water goes from dark to lighter tints. gona make this one my favorite
only question: what are the 2 bright areas on the turlte?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Kamermans In reply to Zidaantje [2005-09-12 18:28:08 +0000 UTC]

most of the underwater photos that i posted are made in bonaire and the waters around the island in protected area and the turtle is a rare beast so they tagged al the turtles. those tags are so bright on the photo becouse i used a extern flashlight

every nice gradient, but the turtle is a little bit blur..... However i like ur thin cropping...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 0

monolith [2005-06-12 06:44:42 +0000 UTC]

I like this. The thin strip composition and the blue gradiant caught my eye, and sea turtles aren't something I see very often, so the subject is also interesting. I just have to zoom out to see it all at once.

I decided to link to this in my journal [link] as one of my picks so that maybe others could see and enjoy it as well.

carrotrope [2005-04-06 22:46:40 +0000 UTC]

perfect composition and use of negative space - for me, with the vivid blue and lack of detail in the upper part of the shot sort of make the turtle appear floating in space rather than swimming underwater. kind of other-worldly in a sense. either way it's beautiful.

limpsharp [2005-03-22 19:06:06 +0000 UTC]

great capture. i agree with previous comments, the right hand back leg is quite close to the border, but as you can say, there is not a lot you can do. great detail, and a superb photograph.
