Hey there! I was feeling abit low at the moment, nice to see your today
your pictures are always a treat! Although I'd prefer candy and dark chocolates

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to celexana [2010-11-15 20:21:40 +0000 UTC]

get the chocolate while you can I hear cocoa prices are about to sky rocket (according to CNN, those guys rarely ever get anything right)

Keep your chin up man - dark always gives way to light (milk chocolates ?)

celexana In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-11-15 20:27:19 +0000 UTC]

LOL, indeed so! the prices has already gone up here $$$
So I get the Lindt brand of dark chocolates, it's like over $2, not as pricey
as the Dove brand, which is my favorite.
Well, the sun is peeking in and out of the clouds today
You must be having your lunch break, no...you're on a break

I've been drawing a portrait this afternoon. And it's completed.
Oh, the brand does make a difference in eating chocolate. Yum-yummy!

I suppose it would go into your mouth
Now, what are you up to at home? A busy day at work?
How's the guitar playing coming along?

Kamal-Q In reply to celexana [2010-11-16 02:20:46 +0000 UTC]

working on speed and timing with a metronome, reading sheet music instead of just tabs, and most importantly ear training so I can know hearing what ever I hear what the interval is between two sounds (and I feel like a fifth right about now )

Hows the piano and students ?

celexana In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-11-16 05:35:05 +0000 UTC]

I recall the ear-training back in the day of my University years when
I studied music. Such great fun
I know the intervals like a heart-beat
I only have 7 students now; I had 21 two years ago...so when 2009 began, I lost 9 in January due to the decline of the economy. And then by Summer I ended up with 8 students. So the past year has stayed the same. It has been good though, the students that I have are consistent in coming to lessons. In fact, I have one student that is on her 4th year with me. I practice piano and violin about each day. Now that my artwork has taken to a more serious quest, I still try to find time to enjoy my music which is a good stress reliever. That's great that you're reading sheet music and doing ear training. You know, I enjoy your sense of humor and I smile, "I feel like a 5th about now", It seems to me you always have something witty to utter on anything.
Enjoy your day tomorrow. It's 10:30pm for me and I need to read before going to bed.

Kamal-Q In reply to celexana [2010-11-16 15:00:31 +0000 UTC]

How long did it take for you to get your ear trained well enough to play tunes by ear? I'm starting to be able to catch simple melodies and figure them out on the guitar but still far from what I want to be able to do.

Hard times give way to ease sooner or later

You may want to look in to some art method books. I've been going through (basically copying the drawings based on a method) Andrew Loomis "Fun with a Pencil" [link] -I've found it really beneficial

celexana In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-11-16 15:22:31 +0000 UTC]

I was blessed as a child to play musically and so the formal
ear-training education was 2 years. I had to compose music also, which
I have done on occasion. I can also transpose music to another key.

Oh, I've looked at enough art methods in dA and really, I am beginning
to find my niche with my style and technique. I've challenged myself
to draw a variety of subjects in graphite(I have a special collection of those)last month, as you have viewed already, I suppose;and what I have learned this past year has been beneficial. Of course, there will always be room for improvement, and along the way, disappointments.

I hope that the hard times will ease up somewhat, but, I'm blessed with good health
after I rough last Spring and into Summer, and that I have enough $$ to get by. I think my perspective on material things is do without and make do with what I have.

I'll take a look at the link you showed me, and see if there's anything new.
Oh, I already submitted my new portrait last night. The drawing of your hands, my girlfriend was impressed with my detailed work on it. Kamal, I removed it from my gallery here because it didn't look as good on screen, I hope you understand. It seems that at times I submit a work here and it won't look as great and therefore I end up removing it.

You must be a pro Music is just something I'm getting into but I do want to get decent at guitar

The good thing about the book is that it builds you up as you follow it (and it got me thinking in 3d rather than copying 2d shapes)

I did notice that you removed the drawing shortly after posting it - its your choice man, I wasn't holding against you or anything

I hope you keep improving and that your health keeps up
