While I have no qualms with same sex couples, there is a small but frenetic faction of fanfiction writers that believe that the main, cannon couple in Sailor Moon shouldn't be Usagi and Mamoru, but Usagi and Rei. Countless bad stories have been posted where Mamoru turnes out to be a low-life, scum-sucking jerk, forcing Usagi to see that her true soulmate is Rei. The Shinto Miko seems to spend every waking hour set ablaze by her Princess's sweaty charms.Related content

one word can only describe what I feel after just finding this out....."ew" I got nothing against same sex couples either but I mean come on, Serena and Rei?! Who are these people and where do they come up with this stuff?! Sheesh.

That is kind of true. I prefer Usagi/Mamoru, personally

That's true that there are lots of bad fanfiction stories that turn Mamoru into a cliche evil bastard so I try to avoid those ones. I like Usagi/Rei occasionally but I also like Usagi/Mamoru (more so in the manga than the anime) and I really like Usagi/Seiya. But I think what you said about cliche badly written fanfics can apply to pretty much any pairing imaginable in Sailor Moon and also for other fandoms. I've seen tons of bad fanfiction for the canon pairings in Sailor Moon so I guess it goes to show that lots of fanfiction is written by people who have no clue how relationships work and/or have no clue that spell check exists. Of course, there's always some good fanfics buried under the mountain of crap and they're worth looking for.

hahahahah i'm still chuckling...i have nothing against this coupling but the fact that it's completely not canon. And when i watched the series they never seemed like anything other then best friends who would die for each other - which could be the thing that fuels this coupling but whatev. Great pic!

Personally, I think the senshi should pair off with eachother. You know, Minako with Rei, Makoto with Ami..why the hell do they need to alter a pairing that the maker of the series has set in stone?!
Some of these fics have such weird logic that it doesn't even merit covering in any detail. I'll just mention the most glaring piece. Chibi-usa somehow changing from the child of Mamoru and Usagi, to being Rei and Usagi's child. Now, don't get me wrong. I don't mind the idea of two girls having a kid. Hell, I imagine one or two for the Shizuru/Natsuki pairing from Mai-Hime. But when you alter the parents, and you get the 'exact' same kid? At the very LEAST, there should be a difference in mannerisms!

I like them together too but I don't make Mamoru a jerk to get them together. I like Usagi's with Mamoru too.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I love Usagi and Rei when it's written well, but too many UsagiXRei stories (and UsagiXSeiya stories, for that matter) just out-and-out ruin Mamoru to make the author's favorite pairing work. It doesn't make for good reading.
