Its a kind of Tribute to the Artof Otto Dix and the famous novel
by E.M. Remarque "All Quiet on the Western Front".
I donΒ΄t know why WWI impresses me that much.
I visited the Imperial War Museum in London
a few years ago. They had reproduced a Trench
there with all the sounds and so on. When you
stay there for a while and let your emotions flow
this atmosphere gets so fucking scary...

Another great work! Otto Dix was portraying the horros of war in his time, this is like update to his visions. Great tribute!
There's something eerie in gas masks if you ask me, it makes a person look somewhat unhuman, if you ask me. With the addition "wonder weapon" the poison gas, the MP-18 sub machinegun also gives a nice touch of revolution in weapon industry and war tactics. How war has become more industrial one than ever before. But it was still about the men fighting and dying in it.

Yes, absolutely...! This is the point:
unhuman... I made my own experience
during my military draft with those
fucking gasmasks...
May be its this big antagonism about WW1..
Weapon technology made such a big progress during
this short period of the war. But on the other side
there was something like a backslide into
stone-age!
I saw the close combat Weapons they used for
the fights in the trenches when i visited the
imperial war museum in london. It was that kind
of primitive and cruel... Home-maded trench clubs
with long nails in it like in the medieval.
Sharpened spades, all kind of trench-knifes,
trench picks, Brass knuckles...
Yes, i thought this was kinda like the stone-age
with the ability to use iron!

I've been acquianted myself with gas masks when I was serving in the Finnish Defence Forces 
I see your point with the slide to stone-age, well at least the Middle Ages
Also several variations of body armour was used. I think it was the Italians who took this "medievality" into extreme.
