Description It's long, but shouldn't take too long to load.
DA's categories suck.

Anyway, it's not the best wing I've ever doodled, but it'll give you an idea of how I make them.

It assumes you know your way around Illustrator a bit, like how to change the transparency, fill and outlines. This was made in Illustrator 10.0- I have never used Photoshop, so I wouldn't know how to translate this to that program. But if you can customize brushes in it, then the theory would probably be the same.

And I know my spelling is horrid! I typed it all in-program, and Illustrator doesn't have a spell-check.

Try downloading Gimp- it's free- and I think something similar can be done with it.

Interesting technique. I might use it (and adapt it for the various different avian feather types)

That's the fun part- it's just a simple brush, so it can be modified to meet any end. Lyre bird feathers, perhaps?

Illustrator's the only program (besides Gimp) that I've got. I'll play in Gimp later and see if I can adapt this for that.

I don't think Paint.net has anything to make brushes. Maybe GIMP?

It's pretty simple. I haven't tried it in Gimp yet though, so we'll see how well it works there.

Illustrator's a fun program, but it has its limits. Try the demo before you buy it- it's a bit of a learning curve from photoshop or gimp.
