Zelda and Link both watched from the base of a deku tree as their little son, now aged two, was running around after the fairies that fluttered about his head. The light cast by the ethereal creatures reflected off of his deep golden locks, messy and unkempt as a child's hair would be. Zelda made a mental note that it was bath time for the little boy as soon as the sun set.

"Don't wander off too far, Kail," Link called after the child.

Kail turned, and his sky blue eyes lit up as he beheld his father. It was times like these that reminded Zelda of the striking resemblance he bore to Link. She could only imagine what he would look like as he grew in the years to come. "Papa!" he cried gleefully, running towards his father, arms outstretched. He launched himself at Link, who took the impact with as much grace as he could, laughing freely.

Link stood, and brought the child up to his shoulders, so that Kail was now higher up. The two year old shrieked with joy: he loved it when his father walked with him like this. Zelda smiled, and closed her eyes, listening to the half-discernable gibberish Kail was babbling and Link's chuckles mingle with the sounds of the forest.

"Well, I'll be," a voice from her left said in a slightly surprised voice. "That little dork looks more and more like Link with every passing day."

"Roy, you saw him yesterday," another voice laughed, this one more feminine.

"That's why I said 'with every passing day'."

Zelda could easily recognize the two speakers, but she was completely unprepared for the third.

"Lest you slip up and accidentally say 'with every passing second'." This voice, too, she recognized. Her eyes fluttered open.

Link and Kail were both facing the three new arrivals. "Roy, Elice, Marth, come by to say hello?" he said, as lightly as he could. He had no grudge against them, not anymore, but some things were hard to forget and harder to forgive.

He lifted his son off his shoulders so he could greet his honorary aunt and uncles. The blonde toddler ran first to Roy, who scooped him up with a robust laugh. "Hey there, little dork," he said with a broad smile.

"Roy!" Kail screeched happily, poking the young man in the nose.

"Would you look at that." He turned to Marth smugly. "He gets my name right, but he always manages to screw up yours."

Marth, the oldest of the group, scowled at the younger Roy. "That's because your name is only three letters and happens to be fairly easy to—"

"MARF!" the child shouted excitedly. Roy and Link exploded into laughter at Marth's expense, while Elice and Zelda giggled. He was passed to the blue-haired man, who was promptly subjected to a thorough bit of hair-pulling. If anything, Kail was fascinated by Marth and Elice's hair. He'd never seen anyone else with blue hair, and his parents and Roy didn't have it.

"Fay!" Kail bounced, pointing at the fairies. Marth grimaced.

"Uh, here, Zelda." He passed the boy to her. "He wants to go look at the fairies."

"I'm not kidding, Link," Roy was saying as Elice and Zelda went with Kail to look at the fairies. "That kid looks just like you. It's actually a little scary."

Link beamed. "Give him time. I actually think that he'll act a little more like Zelda when he gets older. I was never this loud as a kid, I don't think."

"Elice was like that. Father always said her volume was a sign of good health. Better lung capacity," Marth commented. "Of course, when we were little, I don't think a certain blockhead really helped."

Kail was running around after a bright ball of light that fluttered just out of reach, cackling merrily. Elice was hot on his tail, chasing after him. Finally, she caught up to him, and scooped him up. Kail shrieked, being at the mercy of Elice and her tickling.

"Then again, Kail seems to be a happy boy," Marth observed. "Maybe we didn't have enough happiness ourselves, so he tries to make up for that."

Kail came running back to Link, seeking refuge from Elice, who was the Tickle Mistress. "Papa!" he pleaded, hiding behind him. His little hands tugged at Link's tunic.

Link raised his eyebrows. "You want to go?" Kail nodded, and Link scooped him up. "Thanks for stopping by. I know Kail's going to miss you all," he said to the three.

Roy gave his characteristically cheeky grin. "You won't be rid of us that easily. We'll come back to visit. Or Elice and I will, at least, since a certain someone is about to become King," he added when he noticed Marth's quiet cough.

"Roy," the little boy said tiredly. "'Licey. Marf."

"Wave 'bye to King Marf," Roy said with a snort. Marth cuffed him on the shoulder.

Kail raised a hand and waved sleepily. His eyelids drooped along with his head, and soon he was sleeping on Link's shoulder. His hair fell across his face, a dark gold with the light of the disappearing sun gracing the locks.
