If you click on this thumbnail, you can see my first version of 'Lost in contemplation' (based on a photo of Jay Malinowski, vocalist and guitarist for the Canadian band, Bedouin Soundclash). For my second one, I chose a different approach. Which style do you prefer?

The expressions, use of color and the pose gives an aura of bleakness which gives a powerful impact to the viewer. However, I feel that the nose and lips could have been on a softer tone and lips,less thin . Also, I think the jacket and the hairs are painted with the same colour tones, it would have been better to make the hairs a little darker than the jacket. There is a little loss of details and it could have been more stronger if more details were added. This is awesome ! I like the texture, especially on the hat and the shoulder.
The forehead is a bit weird, too much forward or something like that... But I definitely prefer this version

Thanks! I'm quite happy with the way his jacket and his hat turned out, so I'm very glad you like how I painted those! And, I see what you mean about his hair, nose and lips. I'll keep practicing on the tones and details.

Oh, I think this one is better! I love the colours very much. This picture looks more alive and moving. Previous one is more moody and oppressive, he is like falling asleep. But this one is like he has stopped to think and now he's lost in his thoughts, but the next moment he will open his eyes with a decision he found

I see what you mean... In this painting he's more lost in contemplation than in the previous one, where he looks more depressed or exhausted.

I like contemplation II more. The facial expression looks more relaxed. Also admire how you got in more pigments which complemented each other
