Welp, I liked the idea at first.. and I liked the sketch, but alas. I need photoshop to blur everything |D

Chapter 3: Alec sides with the flock, dun, dun, dunnnn

Alec First Post (in vagabond)

His sinuses burned with each unwanted breath, his already questionable vision had Alec almost completely blind in the array of smoke. He could feel his pulse climb higher and higher as he swung his head frantically side to side on a quest to redeem his sight. He was numb to any sound besides the pounding of his own heart in his long ears, anxiety wafting over him like the comparable wave of ugly gray smoke. It wasn't until the painted stallion's bright blue eyes shifted to his daughter that he knew he had to redeem his senses. Though his ears couldn't, Alec's bulging, panicked orbs could just make out the words on the young filly's lips, "Dad! DAD! ALEC!" He could only envision her voice. Agnes was a strong child, much stronger than her father was at eight years old, in fact, probably stronger than he was now. It wasn't until he saw tears build up in her identical blue eyes that Alec swallowed his excruciating panic and pulled himself together.

The macaw pegasus gasped in the toxic air as his senses came flooding back all at once, crowding over his daughter, wings covering her small figure, he only managed to choke out a desperate, "It's-- coff, coff-- g-ggoing to be al-- coff-- alright." Alec attempted to cover his head, as well as his child, under his wings as he began to move through the crowd in an obliviously desperate trial to find safety. Glancing back and forth between Agnes and the chaotic path ahead of them, Alec's heart trembled and broke at her sobs. It wasn't until he huddled even closer to his young filly that he heard her effort to speak between choking on tears, "We need t-to go w-with that stallion!" Alec had to strain his ears to hear her.

"W-who?" He muttered in confusion.

"HIM!" Agnes belted out in one strained sob, obviously irritated at her father's ignorance. She spun around, against Alec's bright blue feathers and galloped toward a bright bay pegasi with a silver mane and tail. Momentarily dumbfounded, he soon caught himself racing after his daughter.

"I-I'm, so sorry!!" Alec awkwardly shouted at the stallion, not realizing, or caring that he probably couldn't be heard. Though he had missed the pegasi's offer to safety while in a previously shocked daze, it was clear Agnes didn't. Though in all the rush the red stallion seemed to already be hurrying on his way, and with Agnes heading in his direction, Alec had no choice but to follow.

Alec Last Post

Peering through the large barn door, Alec's eyes burned from the smoke. It was hard to tell if the black clouds were merely covering his eyes, or the entire city of Inaria. The small stallion blinked multiple times, peering through his round spectacles almost too desperately. It wasn't just his eyes, Inaria-- hell, everywhere he looked was encased in flames and twisting black smoke. How could anyone do this? Yet as he thought, he already knew the story, the entire story. Didn't Inaria deserve this? The Talorians had killed off many of his winged kind, and they have been for generations. Alec's brow furrowed, they deserved this.. They did.

Alec's turquoise wing stretched back over his daughter's own feathered back as he pulled her closer to his side, attempting to shield her eyes from the flame's toxic exhaust. Swishing black bangs from his bright blue eyes, the spotted donkey was about to turn away from the barn entrance before he saw a figure begin to emerge from the fire. It was their guide to the barn, to their safe place, this winged stallion had saved them. Who knows if he would have been pulled from his panicked state if it wasn't for Agnes or the bay figure who approached so rapidly. As the new pegasus came closer and closer, Alec began to realize that in fact, he wasn't so new at all. Sonador. He could recognize that familiar face from their time spent imprisoned in Torrine. Sonador seemed much more fragile since their past encounters, yet he had still managed to save both him and his daughter. For that, Alec owed him much thanks.

As the silver bay stallion came closer, Alec stepped back, while also ushering Agnes out of the way, who was in fact quite eager to see who were to come through the front of the barn, they managed to provide enough space for Sonador to land safely.

"Alec, I had no idea it was you--" Spoke the older stallion, but Alec cut him off in an abrupt rush of stuttering syllables. "T-THA-Ank you." His voice cracked as his nervous seemed to overtake his speech yet again.

It wasn't long before Sonador was peering at Agnes in subtle interest, ""Is... is she yours?" he asked quietly, but before the blue-winged stallion could respond, Sonador was rushed away.

Turning to watch him go, Alec's eyes shifted over the barn they stood in. All around, there were horses sobbing, choking, even dying. Was the flock's mission really worth it? If it had caused this much suffering, what was the point? Yet as he dug deep through his thoughts, he thought of all the pain Talori had inflicted on him, inflicted on others, perhaps he would have even been able to raise his daughter from birth if it wasn't for the herd's dangerously ridiculous views. His bright blue eyes shifted back to Sonador as he attempted to assist any of those in need, Alec knew this stallion wasn't cruel, he wasn't violent, and as the donkey's eyes peered over those who he believed to also occupy the flock, he saw only the same mentality. Alec knew that of course, not all the flock members would appear as docile, yet he could say the same for Talori's citizens. The difference was, the flight was trying to do the right thing, and they were.

Of course, he had his daughter to think about now as well. Alec couldn't just sit by and watch her be treated with as much prejudice as he had been throughout his life. In Talori's eyes, because of the wings Agnes sported atop her withers, she would never be good enough, yet to the flock, she was a gem. Perhaps their intentions could shift Talori's as well, perhaps they could make the whole of Aquore a better place.

As his own realization finally began to set in, Alec found his choice, he knew what he had to do. If he was deemed a traitor for standing up for what he believed to be right, well, a traitor he'd be.
