Clever use of blurring to enhance perspective in this one! I hate Focus Blast, it always seems to hit when I least expect it in the Battle Frontier

Great to see more pokemon art again. ^o^~~ I love the simple but great lighting and posture. I definitely don't want to be in his way OTL

More pokemon art never hurts!
Haha, I think anyone is done if they're faced with a bear charging for an attack.

The only exception might be a Blissey or Cresselia! Dx;;; And that's quite an exception.

Thanks dude! I'm fairly bad at making serious or angry expressions but I think I got it right for once. xD

Yaay, I'm glad to see your artwork again. Your pieces are always so dynamic. Being able to convey that strong sense of energy is often really difficult, but you seem to nail it every time.

Kairyu In reply to RisingSunfish [2010-03-05 08:19:15 +0000 UTC]

Thank you
It's been a subject I constantly practice. Like you said it is pretty difficult to capture. But all this practicing has made it much more easy.

RisingSunfish In reply to Kairyu [2010-03-06 01:11:23 +0000 UTC]

The practice definitely shows. Any tips you would give to avoid stiffness and capture that energy?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kairyu In reply to RisingSunfish [2010-03-06 02:05:18 +0000 UTC]

For stiffness I would read up more on real anatomy. Become at least familiar with the skeletal structure and how it moves. I'm sure you can find some tutorials on that around DA.

Actually, one of my good friends in the comic industry told me a good way to improve is to get a sketch book, hang out at a park and draw everything you see (including the people.) It's frustrating at first but the practice is very good. At least it was for me!

So you think more practice with the human figure would also lend dynamicism to animals? That's interesting. Most of what I practice is human anyway, but more in-depth practice (especially life-drawing) should definitely help. Thank you!

Kairyu In reply to RisingSunfish [2010-03-07 05:30:48 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!
I don't think I specified what kind of figure you ought to draw- but if animal figures is what you want to improve on you can look up anatomy books on that as well. Improving on dynamics and movement, I think, comes along as you keep drawing and using your imagination.

It might also help (and easier to access) to study photos from National Geographic . A bookmark worthy site, imo! I would've said to visit the local zoo but that might be out of the way for you. And they are usually not that active anyway :/.

I always seem to forget about National Geographic. I'll definitely keep that in mind for more practice.

And yeah, if I ever need to practice sleeping animals/animals hiding in caves where you can't see them I will go to a zoo XD
