I've been thinking a lot again lately on the passing of Jason David Frank. Most celebrities passing, while sometimes very sad, are not matters that will cause me to stay stuck on it for long, but it was different with him. For years he was a beacon I enjoyed looking to for a little boost of enthusiasm, of inner strength, to make myself say, "Do it for Tommy", silly as that may sound, to get through some tough days. I never forgot him, and I thought of him often, and followed his life after the Rangers, enjoyed his triumphs, wished him the best through his struggles.

It's rough when someone you look to for strength fails, when they give up, especially after they spent so many years trying to push you on and encourage you to do the exact thing that they failed to do in the end, which was to hang on. It makes you question whether they really ever believed in what they said at all, or if they were fake.

I don't believe JDF was fake, or a fraud, but he was human....I know the dark, evil thoughts we can all have when our lives feel worthless, when we believe we have no value, thinking that the world won't miss us. It's dreadful, and when somebody you looked up to gives in and gives up, it's hugely, sadly discouraging.

So to that end I've chosen to continue looking up to Jason, but at his best, and to do better than he did in the end. He was 49 years old when he died. I have 12 years to match that, and then go beyond it, and I feel a desire to live my best, for myself, and for his sake as well, because he cannot.

So the words here are the ones he spoke to me when I commissioned a Cameo from him, with the words I chose to take to heart. They were the words I always believed, in one way or another, he would tell me, and he didn't disappoint, because they were genuine....the real Jason at his best, without the demons tearing at his heart and mind that ultimately broke him down.

The best of him is what I will carry on with me.

Go with God, Green Ranger.
