Description Just to show that I am terrible at digital art
I really just wanted to play with color combinations and digital was an easy way to do that.
It became this...
And yeah I have no idea how to do magic spell painting on digital art. It's a total FAIL...if anyone can share a good tutorial I'd really appreciate it lol

Hi there, you mentioned tutorials and I wanna share a couple that I really like by one of my favorite artists here.

This one seems to have a couple of effects detailed, but he also has other tutorials in his gallery. The latest tutorials he did were actually about color and I learned alot from them.

I myself never touch the "flow" setting on brushes, only the opacity, but judging by the result of the tutorial,...maybe I should

Also, I'm not sure this is something you'd be interested in, but seeing as how you say you are new at this, try making a new layer an putting a texture(a photo) on it that is itself black and white. Could be anything, but "old paper" would probably give the best result for starters. Set the layer option "normal" to "overlay" or perhaps "multiply". You can also set the opacity to something lower then 100%. For example it could also be soemthing like this

PS. I don't think it's a total fail.

try using a combination of texture brushes or particle brushes, then color dodge the shit out of it. not a bad attempt tho

Any suggestions on brushes? And color dodge? You're gonna have to explain what that does -.-'
I literally paint on PS like I would do on canvas

haha, ok ok . umm i got like a pack of 200 brushes or so for free somewhere here on DA....maybe it was Maciej's brushes, idk. but in the pack there are lots of different types for brushes lol...splatter brushes that creat like paint spallters on the canvas, and some partical brushes that prduce tiny dots or squares in varying sizes in a random pattern. stuf like that can be good to use. as far as color dodge....its a layer blending mode that bightens any area that is below 50% on the greyscale and darkens anything above 50%....so it pushes and pulls your shadows and highlights.... experiment with it a little you might find some pretty cool things....like...draw and eye real quick and put a white highlight on it for the light refection and add a layer over it and change blend mode of layer to colore dodge, take a airbrushe and use a bright high saturated red and airbrush over the eye and boom...glowy eye. have fun playing around with it!!! if you need some more help join me in my chat #gaidenscafe and I can help you.
