ahahahahahaha!!!!
I totally agree... you can always find something HILARIOUS on Youtube... or something really interesting. I found a lot of neat stunt-double stuff and martial art demonstrations on there... it is freaking amazing how these guys can move... one (I'll see if I can find it) had this guy with this weapon, I don't even know what it was, sorta like a mace, but the ball was smaller and he was lying on his back on the ground and spinning this thing around underneath him and like..popping up a little everytime it went under him... so fast. It was a monk, I remember that about it....

I believe the swastika symbol was used in some American Indian art, as well as possibly Finnish works, too, but haven't seen info on that in a while. Evocative collection at any rate, makes one think, if nothing else.

the swastika was used in buddhism as a sign of good luck actually.... in a lot of eastern culture as well... this is actually a Nazi medal that my grandfather gave me that he took ....off a body... when he was in WWII.

I'd come across that usage, too, actually, before I remember reading about its use around other places/cultures. It really isn't too far fetched, as it is an interesting and easy progression from two simple crossed lines, and sort of implies a circular flow of a kind. And, yes, I am so sorry that the Nazis used it in one form for their rallying icon. It has ruined many, many people's appreciation of a simple symbol... but I wonder if they had chosen a different one, then they would have besmirched something else for us. All falls down to them ruining this and ruining that... glad you posted this pic. Quite a think-starter.

I think that any symbol that they would have chosen would have been ruined for someone... when my dad was in Vietnam, on short leave, he was traveling around and saw a whole cemetery with headstones with swastikas on them... it is still a symbol of peace and purity for some...even I can see, as you said, the circular flow the symbol creates. Nasty Nazis.
Thanks for thinking about this photo...I think it just offended most people...didn't get much feedback on it.

Well, the nazis reversed it, so if you go anywhere in the east you'll see tons of swastikas, just going the other direction. When I was at the Bahai House (where Solitary Prayer was taken) I was actually surprised to see swastikas on the design in the interior. There are symbols in the building that represent all the major religions and they used the swastika to represent eastern philosophies. Pokemon may have changed it for the Western Market, but the Bahai's won't. Which there's nothing wrong with, to them(buddhists, hindus, etc.) it means something different.
I think most people in the west associate it with hatred. I sure do. My grandfather took it from someone during WWII. It's the most beautiful and hideous thing I own. I just keep it in a box and I'll give it to my grandkid if I ever have any.
Even seeing them in the Bahai house I was really shocked, and had to think twice before I judged this religion over one symbol.
I have a pin also that he took off a dead nazi's uniform, and I've searched the internet to find out what it is and what it means, but I can't find it anywhere. Oh well.
Thanks for the comment. Sorry for the long babbling response.

It is in Wilmette, IL. It's about a half an hour from Chicago, and about 20 minutes from where I live. There's also Bahai Houses in South America, Russia, Israel, India, Germany, and Australia.

Nicely composed...and yeah, swastika was a Buddhist sign of peace back in the day...funny how innocent signs can be changed so much from dodgy use..

Thank you!
Yes, it is funny. When my father was in the service he was in India or something, and they passed a cemetery and there were swastikas on a lot of the gravestones. This was in the late 60's too.
Too bad the Nasty Nazis had to go using it.

Thanks! That swastika was a medal awarded to women for giving birth to sons. It was my grandpa's.
Yeah, the swastika is a sign of good luck.(or was) It still is in some eastern philosophies probably.
