Description

Yes, this is how my current Betta tank looks like. It is the home of 9 sweet females and one male (still not named yet).

Also the habitat of two Pleco's and a Catfish, but the Bettas is the family of the tank
Before I had so many different types of fishes, but then decided to have only bettas in this,

since I got a BIGGER tank from my sister and her boyfriend... (a pic will come later)

But yeah. My little tank of Bettas

Could I use this tank picture as an example of a good tank set-up on my blog? bettaobsession.blogspot.com/

I'd be careful with the male with the females unless you're looking to breed... and even then they'll be aggressive towards females. Lovely tank, but I'd consider separating them.

how the heck do you get all of those bettas to get along???? i thought betas of the same sex fight with each other constantly??

Jullelin In reply to punkinpi22 [2013-11-17 09:13:37 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, my bettas are well behaved
But seriously, they are. The seldom fight or chase each other.

The only one who sometimes chase a little bit is my male, but he never harms the females.

And all the females have sweet temper and character. They sometimes show-off to each other, but I have never seen them harm anyone

in the tank. Maybe I am just lucky. And maybe the fact that my females was in the tank before the male, maybe that helps. They have already created a matriarch

society, and when the male came, he simply followed "their rules and behavior". I don't know xD

Do you have 2 males in the same tank?

no i have babe and two females in one tank and i have michael angelo in anther tank and he has five females because they are all around the same age. babe and the two females are also around the same age but they are about two years younger than michael. thats why i keep them separate

Very nice setup for them! However be careful with those shells, the calcium in them can make the pH go quite alkaline. Also the rocks where the Amazon Sword is on, is that base rock or is it fake?

Hihi, the shells and the rocks are both fake so no worries there

This is so cool!  Your tank looks really pretty

I love seeing that other people have tanks too, and although I don't have bettas and don't know much about them I love your fish

This is beautiful. My male beta shares his home with various species of Cories and some snails. Their tank, while sufficient and, in my opinion, neat looking, is not nearly as snazzy as this.

it's so pretty, I wish my tank was not currently overrun with algae, I hate that stuff! How many litres is this tank? Mine is about 38 and has just one betta in it lol he has lots of room. I want to get a 75 litre and get some catfish but I can't have anything bigger than 38 litres for my dorm.

Ask a fish store about snails. I can't remember what they are called but they have horns on their shells. Anyhow, these little guys are FABULOUS about eating algae. During the warm months,  our tank was getting a TON of direct sunlight through a window that was kept open to catch the nice weather since, where we live, catching those precious few months of warm sunshine are so important since we live in the land of mist, fog, and never-ending rain. Anyhow, three of these little guys in the tank had the entire tank nearly spotless inside of two weeks. We feed them algae wafers to supplement their diet of tank algae so they don't starve but they are amazing at keeping a dirty tank clean. Two or three work well for a ten gallon tank.

I tossed a nerite into the tank last week but it's not doing much. As stupid as it sounds my apartment does not allow snails so I had to get a small one that is inconspicuous, if I could get more than one and a larger snail with a healthier appetite I would. I am moving back home next month so hopefully I can get some then. Until then I am stuck cleaning the algae myself with a toothbrush xD

xTorchwoodx In reply to WickerWolfArt [2013-11-16 08:31:38 +0000 UTC]

That's... odd. Hahaha. I have never heard of an apartment not allowing snails... I doubt anyone would notice snails in a tank that full. I think they are called Spiral Horned Snails or something similar. They generally only get about the size of a dime but I wouldn't want you to get busted with your illegal snails!

When you do move out of that apartment, check them out. They're hard workers!

I've just got a dinky little two gallon. It doesn't have a betta in it at the moment, though I did just purchase a gorgeous crowntail last night.

I'll be cleaning it up soon, purchasing a heater this time around, and adding a little aquarium salt. My last two bettas each lived about a year without the heater and salt, but I'm hoping to have this guy a lot longer by taking much better care this time around.

Anyway, your tank is gorgeous. I hope to one day get one where I can decorate it how I wish. I'd love to have that kind of setup that you've got, as well as have more than just one fish in there.

squintyjones [2013-11-13 22:02:21 +0000 UTC]

wow, that's a gorgeous setup. uwu i've got a tank with six females myself, but i've never heard of keeping a male with them females safely. how does that work?
one time due to a mistake of a seller they sent me a plakat male instead of a female, and i didn't realize that they were a male in my excitement on getting my fish into the tank. and then i didn't realize until he had killed and seriously injured two of the females already in there that he was.. well a he. did you specifically choose a less aggressive male?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jullelin In reply to squintyjones [2013-11-13 22:13:24 +0000 UTC]

Why thank you

I have always had a male together with my females. I guess the little secret is to have the females first in the tank, so the territory is theirs and not the male's.

If a male gets dropped in a tank with females he will not claim the tank (but it all depends on characters.) you should always keep and eye out for aggressive behavior and separate those who sees each other as rivals.
I have gotten two "females" by two occasions, and didn't know they were males. But that is years ago now, and now I always control the females before they are dropped in the tank to make sure of their genders ^^ It isn't as hard as you might think to see a difference
All bettas has different characters, some are more aggressive and others are sweet and calm. It's their personality ^^

squintyjones In reply to Jullelin [2013-11-13 23:13:18 +0000 UTC]

you're quite welcome. c:
ahh, i see. maybe i'll try it one day, but i wouldn't trust the females i have now with a male. several of them are very hot-headed as it is. ^^'
yeah, i realize that. had i not been so happy to get "her" into the tank and actually inspected the fish closely i would have realized. i try to go by ventral size more than anything else.

Jullelin In reply to Rockypockypuff [2013-11-13 22:08:56 +0000 UTC]

Det var konstigt... o tråkigt.

Ja, vissa kampfiskar (som jag också märkt) trivs helt enkelt i ett mindre akvarium. Det är helt beroende på karaktärerna.

That looks amazing. I thought that you could not have more than 1 betta in a tank. My first betta died when I was in college-he was my roommate- have not gotten one since. But I am thinking of getting one

Jullelin In reply to SmileyBear6 [2013-11-13 22:02:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you
You can't have two males in the same tank, but one male and females are okay. Just make sure the females are in the tank before the male. If they are they have claimed their spot and he has to adjust himself to them ^^ It is no good idea to do the other way around.

SmileyBear6 In reply to Jullelin [2013-11-13 23:10:26 +0000 UTC]

oh.... will have to find some healthy bettas to try that with. I love having fish tanks they are smoothing to watch

Wow what a beautiful tank. *.*

And those bettas...they...are...just...stunning. I never saw so wonderful bettas before. Those in the Petshops look so unhealthy. The purple female is a real eye catcher. The male too. What color is he? See no red so I guess it's not a cambogian.

And he's quiet a lucky bastard by having 9 girls. Mine had only 4 wives. xD

I have been seriously wanting to get some Bettas and a nice tank but I honestly have no idea the care and habitat requirements for them so I still haven't gotten any XD I'm trying to research though so hopefully I won't get too confused and give up :3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jullelin In reply to SpringHillFarm [2013-11-13 21:39:48 +0000 UTC]

Aww, they are actually very easy to keep

I would say atleast 10 liters for one betta (minimum). They can be in still water, but then you have to change water atleast 2 times a week.

But I recommend you to have a pump And don't be afraid to have one male together with females. Just make sure the females are in the tank before you drop the male.

The male is more chill if it isn't his habitat from the start (at least my experience).
Other than that, not so hard to keep them happy and content ^^

He was a double tail, but we think he was mixed between that and a king betta. He was the sweetest thing, gorgeous white with two red stripes in his fins, but he ended up with cancer six months after I got him. I'd had him 18 months.

I hadn't uploaded any pictures to dA because of his tumor.
