Well its mostly me being stuck in an older fashion of viewing witch hunters. The real defenition of witch hunter, I suppose, would be a person whom is a professionell whos job is to track down and destroy witches. But the way I have come to view things are a little more complex;
1. A witch hunter does his work not from profeit but out of his own conviction, religous or other.
2. A witch hunter does not utalize any form of sorcerer, witch or other form of spellcaster unless the person strictly follows the witch hunters restrictions, such as no black magic, blood magic, necromancy only use healing et.c.
3. A witch hunter never uses magic himself, unless the magic is part of his conviction such as calling upon the power of his god or using slighter healing spells.
4. A witch hunter must be somewhat skilled in; interrigation, inqusition and other things that may aid him in his investigation.
5. A witch hunter must be mentaly trained to be able to face both the horrors of old night and to able to do what they have to do, such as the hanging of potential innocents.
6. A witch hunter must wear badass clothing, no school uniforms does not count.
7. Despite that previous paragraphs can interpatrated and bended this one stands as the most important one; A witch hunter must be willing to give his life without hesitation for his cause and ideals, this also inlueds personal sacrefises.

So why dont I view Tasha as a witch hunter?
Well he comes off as being more of a sorcerer/magic marksman that hooked up with an organization of mercinereries whom happens to specialize in witches.

Well, to be fair, technically Tasha himself is a witch, so it makes sense that he seems like a sorcerer. Not to mention his powers are aided by the mana of witches he has defeated. Also, Tasha was trained to become a witch hunter, so really he didn't just happen to find himself among this group, more like he was destined to be part of such.

If every series that had an organization or even character who did everything you define as what makes a witch hunter, there would kind of be a lack of originality in it, I believe. Nowadays we want the characters in a series to have a personality, certain motives, etc. so that they aren't so one-dimensional and fighting for the church or something similar. Not to mention we don't view witches as evil, demonic forces anymore, so really things aren't as old fashioned. Considering that the enemy is so powerful, it only makes sense that a WH would use whatever they could to defeat the enemy, even if it's magic.
AND I THINK TASHA'S UNIFORM IS WICKED BADASS! XD

As I said its mostly me being stuck in the older form of witch hunter and I have by such means become rather used to assosiate it with the term. However I never mentioned that the person had to be part of an organization in order to be a witch hunter and in my opinion most people can be witch hunters.
Also how does a persons conviction and personal belifes hinder him from having personality and character development?
This ofcourse has a lot to do with what you define as witch.
For example the in the warhammer universe, fantasy or 40k it dosen't really matter, people does not view all magic users as witches but rather those magic users that strike deals with the dark gods, or for that matter uses spells that call upon the dark gods to work, but people that uses magic without resorting to these methods are not branded witches. Take for instance a librarian, whom is a person who has been geneticly buffed up after desplaying a tremendous amount of talent, are viewed as one of the greatest form of champion the imperium can call upon or a mage of the amethyst/gold order in warhammer fantasy merely ranges from potential suspects to some level of ally.
As for when it comes to the whole "seeing witches as evil demonic forces is outdated" is a bit of since witch hunter takes place during the medival era, I think anyway considering that arthur is alive and a lot of other stuff although then there is the fact that they have guns hmm... confusing.

Yeah that is a vaild point although I do think they would have a better shot if they used an anti-magic field generator together with robotic suecide squrriles.

I any case it will be interesting to see how things will go, will tasha shut up and realize that a lot of people might be saved if Merlin reveal the witch fortress and that the cost is worth it or will he conitnue to whine and end up screwing everything up.
