kotal, arguably the most unique of the new mkx characters, is finally complete after a months-long working process. he now has a full head with hair beneath his helmet, complete arms and hands painted in his skin tone/texture, and fully removable armor on his shoulders, arms, and back, with disappearing shadows beneath all pieces. he also has new cloth patterning, leather textures on his leg and arm wraps, and the unique belt from his osh-tekk outfit. i'm glad, after all this time, to be able to release his revision for you, and i hope you like this version of kotal. i've grown fond of him while working on him, i have to admit!

detailed info:
-repainted outfit pieces for more distinctive colors, textures, and shading; added more surface detail on the white areas of his armor, gold colors are deeper and more vibrant, leather straps on his boots/leg wraps are weathered. all shine/depth effects made new
-skull belt is swapped with the osh-tekk belt from his alternate outfit; the red cloth is still there, but has a more detailed look now, with new fabric patterning and dynamics
-simplified face structure installed on kotal for easy face posing! includes (per side) root posing points for forehead, eyebrow, cheek upper 1 & 2, cheek lower, lip upper and lower, mouth corner. also includes a control point for both mouth corners that works like the jaw hinge (very useful for expressions)
-he has hair added, plus a scalp with dark hair. his hair is braided afro-textured hair (like he has in the comics) along the top of his head, and dreadlocks in the back, which are individually posable. the dreads can be hidden if they're in the way of his headdress, though they fit through the feather piece at the back
-he has fewer leg feathers, since it looks like ferra stole some for her own headdress
-these pieces can now be removed: shoulders, upper back, gauntlets on arms/hands, belt, ornament on front of chestpiece, leg feathers, nose piercing, and front/back cloth. there's optional shading beneath all of them. his headdress also comes off (there's shadows on his face when he's wearing it)
-kotal's face and body are much more complete now for use in future outfits - i built full lower arms, waist, and shoulders for him, with handpainted skin tone and texturing to emulate the look of original kotal (minus the sharp bumpy texture of the original)
-his eyes glow slightly differently now, with the iris/pupil glow that i always do
-teeth revised with proper shading, plus the inside of his mouth and his tongue now matches his skin tone
-preview pose included as kotalpreview.pose
-that's all!

note: justthehead.mesh included, in case you want to try to get creative, but kotal's head would probably be hard to use with other outfits. give it a try if you like, though

  This is fantastic, so many customization options! Kotal is by far my most favorite MKX newcomer and it's great to see someone take extra care in enhancing his model to the maximum

thank you!!! any time anybody mentions the customization and optional items my heart is warmed, those definitely require the most effort and have the least impact on the average audience (you have to actually take a close look to notice, and they're mostly for people using the model anyhow...) but i'm very glad you like it, thank you for saying
one thing slightly puzzling me is everybody was commenting on how they liked the new white armor on him, but it was white on the model i started with. oh well - i did make the gold a whole lot more technicolor (and everything else). hardest part was the blue skin tone for sure

Well, as a Poser user I love customization options and layering


I know! One would think it's easy to make unnaturally colored skin, you just adjust the hue/saturation of a texture with any naturally occurring human skin tone - wrong! It requires so much more additional adjustment to make it look right, and not like some badly edited over-saturated  Photoshop job. And when there's body painting AND engraving/tattoos involved then there's even more work to do.
