The similarities are few, but many between these two.I have a theory.
Since "Roger Rabbit" is owned by more than one company, Disney was unable to produce an animated series starring the funny bunny.
Cue in "Bonkers D. Bobcat".
But all-in-all, maybe it was best there was no Roger Rabbit series, it could have killed the character's appeal with audiences sooner than expected. A blessing in disguise maybe?

I was just thinking about how similar these two characters are
1. Roger has a cranky detective with low tolerances vs. Bonkers works with an officer who has low tolerance
2. Roger is randomly funnyΒ vs. Bonkers who is randomly funny
3. Roger's hyper vs Bonkers is hyper

I NEVER WATCHED BONKERS AS A KID, BUT THEN I SAW NOSTALGIA CRITIC'S REVIEW & IT CAUGHT MY INTEREST, RECENTLY I STARTED TO WATCH IT VIA YOUTUBE.... IT COULD BE BETTER BUT IT'S NICE, I KINDA LIKE THIS SHOW, BONKERS D. BOBCAT IS NICE, I LIKE HIM.
YEAH! I ALSO NOTICED ITS SIMILARITIES WITH ROGER RABBIT, EVEN ON ITS DESIGN, BUT I DON'T THINK THAT'S SO BAD, I JUST THINK DOUG WALKER EXAGERATED

Holy shit, Bonkers is literally just a recolor of Roger Rabbit! XD They have the same exact physical design and everything!!
Though come to think of it, bobcats have never had a very good reputation of being popular characters, have they?

I believe the reason why they couldn't do a Roger Rabbit series is because the Roger Rabbit movie had cartoon characters from other companies, such as Bugs Bunny. However, Bonkers' universe is similar to Roger Rabbit's because it is also populated with cartoon characters, just with Disney ones.

So, since Roger Rabbit is owned by Disney, I believe they could have made a Roger Rabbit series out of Bonkers but have all the other cartoon characters belong to Disney. That way, we could have seen Roger Rabbit working with Lucky Piquel in the show (or at least the first half of the show...).

By the way, isn't itΒ a coincidence that Roger Rabbit wears red overalls, while Bonkers wears a green sweater? The coincidence lies within the fact thatΒ twoΒ OTHER characters wear red and green in a certain video game we all like to play....

You know what's funny? In italian, the dubber of Bonkers is Marco Mete, who also dubbed Roger Rabbit in the movie and in the three shorts.

Nice Fanart! I personally like Roger better. Not only did he come first, but he was more influenced by the classics than Bonker was. Bonkers got most of it's influence by Roger, and I know the story on how Disney wasn't allowed to use Roger for a show. Still, neither are as good as the Golden Age Cartoons (expecially the 40s ones).
