Personality:
Cold-blooded- “I might as well be a snake.”
Heliska is a silent and savage killer. Ambushing or sneaking up on pretty behind it’s back doesn’t bother her. And a little bit of torture ads some fun. She cares for herself alone and doesn’t give a fig about anyone else.
Fighter- “Giving up isn't in my vocabulary.”
She will do whatever it takes to survive. She never considers failure as an option. This had made her a hardened fighter, quick, cunning, and very fierce. It is also probably the reason she is still alive. This makes her independent and somewhat strong willed, she doesn't follow orders easily.
Abandoned- “Abandoned things are the strongest, because they have learned to survive
all on their own.”
Heliska is constantly trying to find a sense of belonging, right now it is with the Infected Clan. She knows the utter despair of abandonment by those you love. Because of this she will occasionally show some tenderness by taking in and caring for things that have been abandoned.
Anti-Social- “The quiet with myself is terrible yet far more durable than company.”
She doesn’t make friends easily because she prefers to hunt and live alone, much like a snake. And she has some serious trust issues due to her past. When she does come in contact with others she will often act grumpy or will snap at them. She would be found at the edge of a crowd, stalking its perimeter.
“Touch me dearie, and you’ll find your head full of holes.”
Heliska hates physical contact. She will shy away from any touch. And if a horse is foolish enough to approach her on her right side, her blind side, she will attack with terrible ferocity. The result will make sure the horse never makes that mistake again.
Observant- ‘It’s called snake sense.”
She is very alert and aware of her surroundings. Despite being partially blind in her right eye her other eye is very keen and she has a vague heat sensing ability, again much like a snakes. She is the first to notice something amiss and often the first to act.
Honest- “I’ve never met a liar worth eating.”
For all her flaws Heliska can be relied on to tell the truth. Not always the clear truth but the truth in her own way. She absolutely hates liars. If she catches someone lying to her they better run and hide their sorry little butt!
History:
Heliska lived with her family that consisted of her mother, father and two brothers. One older and one younger. Her family didn't belong to any of the clans but instead wandered on the edges of Zone-X. Her early years where peaceful but almost overnight something changed inside Heliska. She became increasingly more violent despite her best effort to control herself. Her appetite made her ravenous for fresh meat and she fed on small rodents whenever she could and she became stronger than ever. She tried so hard to control her blood lust, but her family knew her for what she was, Infected.
They distanced themselves from her and Hel repeatedly over heard the words, "monster, infected, demon." Repeated in their conversations accompanied with fearful glances over their shoulder.
The young mare was determined to prove that she was no monster. So when her brothers where attacked by Ligra she defended them and tore the wild cats apart. But her family only became more terrified of her thinking they were next on the menu.
Before Heliska could make a move against them her family attacked her at left her to die in a wasteland. When the Infected mare awoke she was alone and seething with anger at her family's betrayal. It took weeks but she finally was a able to track them down. She was furious that the ones she thought she loved would try to kill her. In the end she chased them down and listened to the death screams of her mother, and youngest brother before she came to her senses and realized what she had done. In horror she fled leaving her injured father and older brother behind.
Alone in the wilderness she traveled south, lost and abandoned. She found herself watching how snakes captured prey and mirroring their techniques, this got her food at least. One of the only joys in life came from hunting and killing the creatures she caught. The harsh surroundings and lifestyle made she hard and tough.
About a year into her isolation she came upon a massive coiled snake, it was longer than the mare but that didn't stop Hel from challenging it. They fought away the day and withdrew by night. This left the snake's jaw hanging limply and the right side of Heliska's face was covered in blood. Finally in the morning Hel defeated the monstrous snake. However she spent the next two days fighting off the poison in a bite she had received during the fight. for a while it seemed like she would die but thanks mainly to the Infection she was able to regain consciousness. To regain her strength she ate its flesh from its bones and proudly wore the hideously large skeleton as a trophy.
But from that day forward she would bare the scars from the fight. And her left eye was so badly damaged that she lost nearly all use of it.
Her wandering through waste lands finally brought her to Zone-X where she found the Infected Clan. Finally a place where she is accepted and treated as an equal. But her lust for power and generally violent nature caused her to join in the rebellion against the Infected Queen Vixina. She is now a member of the outcast Forsaken clan, banished to a arid land that could hardly support life. Thankfully Hel was no stranger to such difficult situations and has been able to survive so far.
Her life has taught her to expect nothing good from any one or anything.
But she has met a few other horses who still had hope and for a little while Hel shared their hope that one day things will be better.
It doesn't take long for her to lose the light at the end of the tunnel. She knows her life will end bloody.
