I based the Mordicant's design off of bog bodies, a real life phenomenon where people who have died in peat bogs come out years later with dark shiny skin and curious orange hair.Part of my hundred-page visual development portfolio based on Garth Nix's Sabriel. Check out the whole thingΒ here

Holy shit that thing is terrifying! It's not at all what I imagined the Mordicant to look like (TBH, my idea was pretty boring compared to yours, pretty much just a bulked-up Frankenstein's Monster), but I really, really like this design. I especially like the way you don't notice at first just how long its mouth really is, until you take a good long look at its neck. Brilliantly creepy!

Thanks, glad you noticed the mouth. Tried to take it in a different direction than Nix's original idea.
