Here's what I would just call a 'study', because I used a direct reference. I really like how smooth I was able to get the colored pencil though.

A few things helped me get that level of smoothness. One was using prismacolor pencils. Another was that the paper is smooth. It might of helped also that the paper is toned. Then as far as technique, I just slowly built up several layers. The coloring certainly took a while.

Very nice. I was just curious. I have prismacolors, but I find I'm more of a digital artist. However your pierce was impressive so I had to ask. I might give it a go later on.

Certainly, thank you for taking the time to ask about my technique. It's flattering to have someone interested enough to ask. Though I will point out again, I did spend a lot of time working on it. Which makes it slightly less impressive, when you take into account all the time it took. heeh.
