That's awesome.
Personally, I think Beast Wars really showed what kinda series it was with this character. What other American cartoon series (for kids) brings you a character so twisted and dark.

True... Very true (on both accounts)
I think it was also a love of Mainframes to push the envelope- both in characters and subject matter. It's one of the few series in that time (90's) that not only made computer animated series- but who also would kill popular characters off, gave bad guys real motivations that helped explain there position, and even took on a few ideas that was taboo for a "kids" show.
(Think of Reboot, Beast wars, Beast Machines, and Starship Troopers here)

"Lapse of Judgment".... that putting it gently.
And, yes. I was painful to watch characters die- but it also gave there shows a brevity lacking in most North American Sat. morning serials.
These characters were cared for BECAUSE you weren't assured they'd live to fight another day.
And Reboot- for all it's goofy humor- created villains that you could have fun with, and sometimes even agree with.
And did you ever watch Starship Troopers: Roughneck Chronicles? It was done by Mainframe as well, and even my DAD loved to watch that one.
It starts with characters you'd know from the book (awesome), or from the movie (gag me). It follows the rookies from getting out of basic, to them growing into smart, driven fighters. Once again, Mainframe pushed the boundries.
It was hard look at war, and the consequences of choices made during wartime (considering it's a cartoon for kids) Just happens that instead of fighting people, they were taking on giant insects.
People died, people got maimed, people had nervous breakdowns because of the strain of war. Characters you wanted to hate, they made sympathetic. Characters you wanted to love, they gave flaws. EVERYONE had a backstory, and everyone had a reason for what they were doing, and why they were doing it.
If your a fan of Mainframes work, and haven't watched it- check it out. It's available on DVD (own it), so you shouldn't have any problem finding it. (or just check on line, and download it that way)

His arms look like they're made out of cheery tootsie pops!
"Mr. Owl, how many licks does it take to get to the horrible, twisted mutant center?"
Seriously though, it's really awesome!
