No one can copyright the name Lam-ang per se, one would need to make the word unique for it to be copyrighted. In this case, it is referred in terms of character design as BATHALA LAM-ANG.

I've seen it.
That's not the only Lam-ang I know of, there are 10 more aside from my own "version". And that was from over a decade ago.
The more the merrier
Putting that trademark insignia and the copyright mark is a question though. Unless Gener was able to secure AND register BOTH trademark and copyright by some miracle.
If that was possible to do, I would have done so back in the 90's.
How can one get copyrights to something that is in the textbooks long before their father's father was born?
Other examples is Maria Makiling, Bernardo Carpio, Urduja, Datu Puti, Lapu-lapu, etc.
That is why I had to modify mine before registering.

Yep, including the original versions from the 90's.
It will not matter if you put a copyright symbol on your character designs if they're not.

I wouldn't have registered the new versions kung walang major updates. The old copyright I have for Bathala Kidlat is still in effect for 12 more years.

I've incorporated the flag colors as early as the original design but I didn't want it to be too obvious as a lot of artists even in the early 90's are already doing a lot of superhero character with the flag theme.
What I try to do on some of the remake is get more closer to the roots of the evolution of being "Pinoy." -- that is before any foreign colonization so the outfits they sport now have some trace of Malay and Indonesian themes. Something that would look like they've just been modernized instead of just being, well, designed just for the sake of making them look Pinoy.
