Description Unedited of the Mountain Stream. A few people said they liked this one more. And it is proof that editing is not what makes the photo, it is the person behind the camera.

Ok... total rookie question. How do you (and most everyone else for that matter) get your waterfall shots to produce that silky, cloud-like appearance?

This guide that I wrote may help you.

Β  How to photograph: Waterfalls and StreamsHow To Photograph

Series 1. Waterfalls and Streams

Photographing waterfalls and streams can be one of the most rewarding experiences for a photographer. Nothing beats the soothing sound of running water from mother nature herself. Well, maybe the sound of rain on a tarp tent, but that guide is for another day. haha
Equipment that you will need.
A camera. Preferably a DSLR, but anything that allows you to control your shutter speed will work.
A wide angle lens. Whether it's a zoom or a prime, something between 10mm and 30mm is usually the best.A tripod. You will need a sturdy tripod since you will be doing long exposures. A sturdy tripod prevents camera shake.A neutral density filter. Long exposures will let a lot of light into your sensor, the best way to prevent this is by using ND filters.Proper clothing. Prepare for the worst conditions when photographing waterfalls

Thank you. This photograph was actually created on Cades Cove, about 200 feet off of one of the trails, while following a stream. Beautiful location.Β
I am wanting to hike Jakes Creek this spring. Also Abrams Falls.

Most welcome are you, my good fellow.

I love Jake's Creek. I want to do that with you if it is possible. My team would be honored. Let me know when you plan to come here and I will meet up at the trailhead or perhaps you could even come and visit my humble family in Alcoa while you are here. If you plan the trip to get the timing right, you can catch the Rosebay Rhododendrons and Mountain Laurels in full bloom during May.

Β

Abram's Falls is a beautiful place. The campground is closed for renovation, but the trail is in good condition.

I would be honored to hike with you and your team, and I would love to meet your family, Ranger Ricardo. My family and I come down for about 3 days out of the year. I am 19 and still do not have a license. I am working on getting my permit this year so that I may begin traveling more. Nature and wildlife photography is something that I will be doing for the rest of my life. Maybe even open a gallery someday. So many places to visit out there in the great world.Β

I think I like this better than the edited one as well. I love the vibrancy of the green in the other one, but considering this looks like a forest stream you would expect it to be darker - you don't tend to find moss that bright in nature. I think the contrast of the foamy water against the rocks is enough without being enhanced.

How lovely! I agree, there is a different kind of beauty in something raw and imperfect, because it's real and natural. It's something the viewer can relate to a little more. I really like the shadows and the way the mist makes it very soft looking. Great work!
