No, I do not form emotional attachments to metal boxes. And despite the "Companion" Cube's designation as my "Companion", it is functionally identical to every other metal box in the Enrichment Center. All it's good for is acting as a weight and acting as a shield. I threw the damn thing into the fire without a second thought and never looked back

NEWS FLASH: The only reason that GlaDOS plays up the C-Cube so much is because the game developers are using a psychological trick to prevent you from trying to complete that chamber without it.
Let me explain:
In the first beta, the C-Cube DIDN'T EVEN EXIST and Chamber 17 just gave you a regular storage cube. Early play-testers ignored the ordinary cube and went on to get killed by the energy balls. Once the cube was reskinned and renamed the C-Cube, play-testers got the hint that the cube was mandatory for getting through that chamber. The developers OPENLY ADMIT THIS during the commentary track.
That's right. The C-Cube is nothing but a clever brainwashing trick!! Forget the Cake; the Companion Cube is the real lie!!!
