I get a fair few emails and messages asking for tips or advice on how to draw.There's only ever one response that I give and that's "practice". With each stroke of the pen you get better at using it and your own personal style and method becomes that bit more honed. Even if the final result of the image on which you are currently working does not turn out to be a masterpiece; the effort of its production will certainly not have been in vain. You'll have exercised a technique and gained a little experience.
I'll be the first to admit there are a great many faults with my own methods, but I stick to my own advice and keep working at it, often posting the results here.
Does bring out the cretins, though.

You draw cartoons- since when is that a medium that requires realism?
I agree with the "practice" comment- like any muscle or skill, drawing has to be trained. I'm still learning myself, but I'm improving.
But aside from all of that rambling, this is pretty funny.

Cartoons are a sliding scale of abstraction from realism, some styles take more hints from realism than others. Thus it's always a good thing to know how to draw realism as a starting point so you can stay flexible.

Riiiight. You draw comic chicks with breasts and hips making up two thirds of their body and with a waist the thickness of their neck. Still, people assume you're just bad at drawing, instead of of thinking of the possibility that you're not really trying to be realistic. That's just sad.

Oddly enough, they who are most critical are the most likely to have not produced anything.
Myself, I produce such crap that it can't be criticized... there's nowhere to go with a critique.

can work two ways
1)they think you're answering their question, and don't get the hurt reaction they wanted and/or 2)they realize a while later that you could have been treating them as a dog [such as "no boy! bad! do not rant to anyone but yourself!"]

Ignore them.
For they do not listen to rational discourse and angry retorts will only result in hypocritical claims that YOU are the troll - which they will report to their pet moderators. Thus, the solution is to not even acknowledge them.
