I’ve had to block several people recently, and I thought it a good idea to point out WHY, just as a heads-up for what kind of behaviour I’m not going to tolerate.Before that, though, I just want to point out that you can badmouth my work and opinions as much as you want. That's not going to earn you a block.
The go-to response to being blocked (by me or anyone else) seems to be “he blocked me because he couldn’t take criticism”. I’m pretty sure most people here know that’s not true as you’ve all seen the comments sections of the more divisive cartoons I’ve drawn.
DON’T be frightened to argue a point or post criticism (the constructive kind I actually find very useful and don’t think of as a “negative” at all)
OK, so, things that will probably make me block you. It’s a very short list:
1 – Open abuse toward other users/harassment.
There’s a difference between having a debate/argument and being a little sh*t. If you don’t understand that difference, think of my blocking you as a learning experience.
2 – Trying to communicate with someone who has blocked you via MY comments section.
If little Timmy has elected to block you and you post a comment in my gallery along the lines of “Little Timmy blocked me because he can’t handle the truth….” or similar, then little Timmy isn’t going to be the only one to do so. I’m not having that kind of schoolyard crap cluttering up my page.
3 – Sending me flat-out insults through comments or messages.
Why wouldn’t I block you if you did this? If that’s all you’re going to use the platform for, I really don’t want to waste time on you.
And, that’s pretty much all I can think of. Hopefully I won’t have to hit the “block” button again for a while.

A childish activity I've noticed is someone will make an insulting reply to a your post and then block you so it appears they got the last word in. (Not you Jack)

This is really irritating, because you don't know you are blocked, until you actually press submit comment. Which is a very irritating thing, after you have spent a good half hour or more to actually look up if the claims made have any validity to them. It is why I am holding myself guilty to the second point of Jollyjack's post.

I been following you for a damn long time and I seriously do not understand what are people's problem, each day our society just gets dumber and it amazes.
Honestly, over the years of me being on the internet, cause I was born in the 80s, I pretty much lived the days of NO COMPUTERS all the way to NOW EVERY HOUSE MUST HAVE A COMPUTER and based on all my years living, and being part of the evolution of the computer which pretty much is now not a lifestyle but a need - I must say the following points.
If you get someone to criticize you, you should think twice before considering it a "valid" criticism. Good example is > People.
On the internet, everyone thinks they know everything.
1. Everyone is a scientist.
2. Everyone is a chemist.
3. Everyone is a teacher.
4. Everyone is a reporter.
5. Everyone is a jedi.
6. Everyone is an expert.
5. Everyone is a God.
Everyone is whatever they want to be, but what they actually are... A brain dead moron that has no damn idea what they are even saying 99% of the times.
Your art skills are great, the main thing I enjoy about you is that you aren't afraid to dig into different styles or different works, even some of those that people prefer not going into.
The thing that makes you special is that you do not try to elevate yourself in one art style, you aren't afraid "look bad" when you try something you never have.
But as you mentioned, people love creating problems and drama and will stop at nothing to do it, even if it is "not on their property", like using your comment section for example.
You do not need to give anyone any excuses, if people act like dumb asses they will be treated like dumb asses, this is your Deviant Art profile, no one else, you do as you want without questions or having to give excuses.
Fuck everybody - cross, strike out, period, final.
Still, in the end...
You should see some of the artist out there, these people would draw the same exact thing over and over and over and over and over again... And not expand themselves for FEAR to what others would think.
This is why I consider you special, and I also consider people who are like you just as special, if you take the time to really try to expand your knowledge and skill then that proves how much you love your work or hobby.
This is why you are a master of your own work in your own right, now I am not saying - do not read or take notes of criticism and ignore what people do in your comments now - I mean the real constructive criticism and comments are just obvious. And the people that have no idea what they are even saying or are trying to cause problems are also obvious. The only reason you are on my watch list is because I like watching people grow, and that is all you do here on your profile, you grow and you expand and you try new things, people can learn a lot from you and see how one shouldn't just run from changes or new developments. This is the only reason I am here for you. I never bother you, I never comment on your pictures, I never ask for anything - but I am here for you and I love your work. So if you ever need a new home to share the art you make sure to let me know, I have you fully covered.

I had a period in my life where I was unintentionally a bit of a little shit... in my defense, I was seven. I also had redeeming qualities that matured over time and with effort.
If you didn't want to be around seven-year-old me, it made sense. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. (Granted, some millionaire politicians, I'd wish extremely fast-acting cancer upon, but that's just reciprocity. Also, why wish an asshole kid upon someone who deserves so much worse? Seems obvious.)
I never had to think about what would result in a JollyJack banning though. I mean, "thin skinned" isn't just an inaccurate adjective... I'd imagine "calloused"... maybe even crusty, barnacled, etc but that may just be "JollyJack" + me playing a game with pirates in.
Also never really grasped why anyone would want to keep talking to someone that blocked them. I mean, if you're feuding or trolling, you've "won", go home, celebrate. They'll not bother you further.

Yeah I agree, conversing, even disagreeing about something is ok as long as its civil. When people start cursing at me or telling me to "just kill yourself" that's a step too far. We can disagree with being disagreeable. That's basically just trolling and I generally don't put up with trolls for long. I've blocked maybe 2 dozen people in twelve years and 2/3 of them were a group of 17yo kids who admitted their age while berating me first after I had AGREED with a journal one of their female friends put up with an added comment of my own. First they trolled me for my added comment - the artist whose journal it was in egged them on - and then I stopped conversing with them so they brought it to MY gallery and started trolling me over a piece of adult-flagged art that they shouldn't have been able to even SEE. So I started telling them to keep acting like buffoons because every comment they wrote just increased the stats of views and comments on that piece of art for me. After almost two weeks(?) I got tired of it and blocked them all after reporting them failed to accomplish anything. I too don't mind constructive criticism, it's how we learn to become better artists, but destructive criticism - trolling - I won't tolerate for long.
