One day on my lunch hour I started doing thumbnails and concept sketches to decide what I wanted to do. I decided I wanted to tell my head-canon version of the Lost City of Atlantis– a city that was built by undersea creatures as a refuge from humans. The idea is that humans were never involved in Atlantis and certainly aren’t welcome there. Ooooh, that's a wonderful twist on an old tale! I love the dolphin guard and how it seems to glower at us and tries to warn us that we aren't meant to be here. And I'm not surprised the dolphin is literally on his guard; dolphins are pretty smart! I'd be scared to run into a VERY intelligent guard like him. O-o
All in all, this is so awesome! (:

Thank you! Yeah I thought it would be good to select a dolphin as a guard because they're smart, fast, and agile. What better way to keep a city safe?

This is so amazingly gorgeous and awesome! And that dolphin looks pissed. I've never seen a dolphin glower menacingly before. I love all the details in the background, you really went all out with this one! I especially love the detail you can see in the blog post... It really is beyond amazing.

Haha thank you SO much! Yeah, I've never seen a pissed dolphin either-- it doesn't really seem in their nature, does it? I imagined a dolphin so unlike the ones we know; Atlantean dolphins would be different, wouldn't they? Stronger, faster, smarter. They've had a very long time to themselves, after all! I'm glad you read the blog post too. I didn't know if anyone would spend the time to read all of the stuff I was babbling! Thanks again. I'm glad you enjoy my artwork so much.
