Oil and Gold Leaf on Board

So yeah. This is the self portrait assignment I was given when I first started working for Sinfulltration.

Some people have criticised me saying anyone can copy a photo, but I'll be damned if this wasn't the hardest things I've ever done. I learned a lot about flake white with this piece. Very fast drying, absorbant paint. Can't use a large brush on it with out leaving brush strokes like you can with titanium white, but it works well with umbers, flesh tone, and sienna. It stiffens like hot plastic so you can blend in a more localized area.

Used a little bit of cadmium red for the warm tones (knuckles, high cheeck, ear, and zit. Wondered what *Doc-Hammer has against cadmiums.

cadmiums are known to cause cancer, perhaps that has something to do with it?...
oh oh, i bet that shiny head is the best to rub for gambling success... you so fly, homie!
i echo about the too-smooth skin, but it's mostly only obvious one the arms and hands. skin texture, it a bitch.

The gold leaf makes you look either heavanly/godly or a pimp.

I checked out that DocHammer's page...the comments he makes on his own work and in reply to other's are quite amuzing..almost seems likes he's 'laying' the tortured artist! Anyway, I think this is quite nice. Maybe a bit too smooth in the skin if you get what I'm saying. I've been playing around with acrylics myself and haven't had the nerve to try oils yet.

You aren't the first to criticize my skin's smooth tecture. I assure you though, the face stretched accross my skull is as smooth as porceline and when I'm dead and my portrait still lives, I shall be remembered that way. (guess who's been drinking!)
