Ah, my first Revenge of the Fallen custom! I started with something light this first round, Breakaway who probably doesn't appear in the film but is in the game. I wanted to make him more like the CG model for the game and went about shortening his Gatling gun, fixing his head and neck, then giving him a paint job that was more like the art. The wings needed something, missiles! Tho I'm not sure if the plane type actually has them there.The paint job is far more complex than my last customs and consists of multiple layered paint shades, metallic actuator and gear detail, flight weathered edges, exhaust streaking, inner mechanical shading, oil, dust, and grease splatter. I'm going to go even further on the larger voyager/leader class ones and see if I can mix airbrushed shading, pastels, and every technique I can think of to create something that will either blow your mind or have people screaming in horror. Only time will tell!

this is the generic explosive device!
1. did you use warhammer paints?
2. how did you get the crispness of the lines for the camo?
3. maybe some putty can fix that hole in his jet mode.
i might do this,what would get that ridiculous paint from the original toy off, you know, the green camo?

1: Nope, Testors model master acryl Acrylics.
2: Freehand withs lots and LOTS of practice.
3: I need to start remembering to do that! I've done it before, but mainly to enhance robot mode.

Love this guy in the game, the Autobots needed some jets. Aerial sniper! Wheee.
So yeah, this is pretty superb work. I'm going to have to buy this toy and lament the absence of this superb paint job.

I feel the quality of the toys for the second movie isn't as good as the first series was. Maybe it's the economy. Do you agree?
Anyway, this is really awesome. Just started playing the game and it's nice to see the Autobots with a jet now. Of course I'll always be a Decepticon fan...>_>

Where did you get this model? I've only found the deluxe version of Breakaway and it looks smaller with less detail. The one you have here looks bigger and more like the model on the back of the deluxe box.

He's the regular one, customized. I removed/added parts and painted him up.

Another AMAZING ROTF figure. Breakaway's really cool in the game, it's kind of a shame he wasn't in the movie.
First of all, I love the paint job. Much more realistic and detailed. The silver looks much better than the blue, and I love the orange camo.
The head is really striking. I love his eyes, they looks so much better than the dull blue ones the normal toy has. The silver paint apps on the face look great too.

It looks very cool, but the F-35 wouldn't (or at least shouldn't) have wing-mounted sidewinders like that. It'd blow its stealth. Otherwise, very cool.

as usual, this is awsome! 3 questions though, how come his eyes seem to be glowing? ive done the light piping thing and they dont glow that much.what did u do to the gun? it looks wider? and finally, how long does it take you to do a figure (on average)? As far as I know, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (of which Breakaway is modeled) has internal weapon bays just like the F-22 and other stealth aircraft. This reduces the radar signature.
As for the character himself, I like how he looks but his head position has always bothered me because it looks somewhat awkward. I know why it's there, but it still looks funny. That's not your fault though so don't worry.

Not hard at all. Scuff them up a bit with sandpaper if the paint doesn't stick. They're made of that 'unpaintable plastic' but Hasbro gave them a rough texture so paint adheres a little better.
