One of the things I love about your gallery is that I always find something in there that I somehow missed before, or just mistakenly overlooked. I love this one! I can totally see it on a wall. You are a true artist, Jill.

Sacramento is certainly very forest-like; we have a crazy amount of trees here

Pretty nice composition. What are these polaroid textures you speak of?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JillAuville In reply to endosage [2008-12-08 23:03:25 +0000 UTC]

thank you
I make my textures out of Polaroid 600 film; I separate the back from the front (by removing the white frame) and then rinse the back of the front piece under water while scratching on it with some sort of sharp object... or a sponge. the scratches mixed in with the remnants of the pola chemicals (and sometimes with a little bit of the actual Polaroid photo shining through) creates a very unique texture

endosage In reply to JillAuville [2008-12-08 23:18:35 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that's pretty cool. You'll have to start making as many textures as you can though. Polaroid is going to stop making the "instant" film next year, I believe.

JillAuville In reply to endosage [2008-12-08 23:24:36 +0000 UTC]

I know, I only have about 100 or so shots left... you can still get film in some stores and online, but they are super pricey now

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

endosage In reply to JillAuville [2008-12-08 23:39:53 +0000 UTC]

Yep... Polaroid won't stop making instant cameras though. They currently have prototype cameras that use a film embedded with a powder / material that basically makes the image with an inkjet of heat. Similar to receipt printers that use heat, but the material has colors available. Different temperature, different color. It also doesn't work like current printers where there's a head that "scans" the surface to reproduce the image. It's produced all at once. Really, a pretty cool technology. It's also faster than previous polaroids too. The image is already developed before the film even leaves the camera.

JillAuville In reply to endosage [2008-12-09 00:05:40 +0000 UTC]

do you mean the Pogo handheld printer? it's certainly interesting, but of course nothing like a real Polaroid... but I'm not that old school and stubborn when it comes to photography; I'm all for exploring new things... this may be a cool alternative in the future

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

endosage In reply to JillAuville [2008-12-09 02:04:14 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yes, that's what it's called. I'm kinda excited about it because if it's altered by heat, then I wonder what would happen if you took a lighter to it! Craaaaaazy effects!
