Out of the blue my muse rushed back to me while I listened to Hurricane by 30 Seconds to Mars. For some reason that song brought me back to Horizon, even after months of not touching Mass Effect in any shape or form. The song suited both my mood as the image slowly appearing on my screen.As always I kept playing it over and over again until the image was finished, just because it gave the right 'mood'. I would suggest following the link to Youtube and listening to it while viewing the image
I really had no intention of revisiting Horizon at all. After getting a few upgrades for my pc, including a big, new, shiny HD and transferring all my images from my backup, I just kept browsing through all finished stuff and materials waiting to be worked with.
The original pic I wanted to do had nothing to do with Horizon but again, I blame the music for messing up my muse
For me this picture just sums up Horizon. I wanted a reflection of the emotion I feel when thinking back to that place. I will ignore the robotic Shepard given ingame and see what I want to see. She is my Shepard after all and she IS hurt, almost defeated by the blow.

Gosh I hate Horizon and yet part of me is touched by it as well. For what it does to me as a player. Despite the anger at the generalized scene we're given, despite the crap dialogue options. Despite all that, it still pushes some buttons.
Now give me ME3 so I can get some closure!

I got to Horizon, killed the whole lot of enemies, got grumpy.. Then i saw Kaidan, squeeked and was happy, and then the bastard just left me there..
I basically threw a tangerine at my TV screen..
(Shame that you need to finish Horizon before you can recruit Thane...

I love it, Shepard looks sad. I hate Horizon for stupid this dialogue, Shepard is a human she should cry or something, tell Kaidan about her feelings but naah BioWare love Shepard as a robot D:.

OMG I had the same thought when I heard that song. Mostly because I got the CD right after I'd played that particular mission.
My Shepard was 2 seconds from just bopping him on the head and taking him with her...kidnapping an Alliance officer and the resulting shitstorm be damned.

The song actually has a somewhat Mass Effect-feeling to it, in my opinion, so I'm not too surprised that it'll make you think of the game honestly. x)
However, this is a very sweet picture, and one that makes me somewhat sad because I agree Horizon was pretty depressing. Especially considering how Shepard reacted, but in some ways I'd like to think that my own Shepard was doing her best to mask those hurt feelings because she understood how difficult it probably was for Kaiden to accept that she had returned from the dead. >: Not that she probably didn't get upset and angry and most likely chucked his picture across the room in frustration the moment she got back to the Normandy, but still.
Ah, that aside, I really love the emotion that you tend to capture in a lot of your pictures. It is quite a talent you have. <3

A lot of people try to work with the Horizon scene best they can, after all it's all we have in ME2 really and I'm glad most make an attempt to work it into their Shepard's story. Others seemed to have moved on to the new LI's after Horizon, blaming Kaidan for pretty much betraying their Shepard. So does this mean Bioware actually did a great job with Horizon? Seeing as how there are so many different views and opinions on what happened there? A LOT of people feel very strongly about Horizon and Kaidan/Ash, strongly negative that is so Bioware did manage to trigger emotion with a scene that should have gotten a bit more work

Oooh, that is an interesting thought. o o I suppose they did, when placed in that kind of perspective.
I only hope that they expand on the relationship between Shepard and Ash/Kaidan at some point, but the fact that Bioware has a way with games that make you want to submerge yourself into the story as well as learn more about the characters makes me think that they'll meet up to our expectations. In one way or another.
And you're welcome. ^^ It takes a lot of things to convey emotion, like posture and expression and even lightning, but you seem to have all that covered very well, as said. <3 So I don't think you have to worry too much about it if you keep doing what you're doing. x)

I share the same feelings, Horizon made me terribly sad. Kaidan was so horribly mean... but circumstance was really cruel to the both of them. Even though I played Renegade Shep, Kaidan was always her soft spot. You make me want to draw more Shenko doodles <3

I love how you related that song to Mass Effect, I did the exact same thing because I love them so much since I found out that they did the Credit song in Dragon age :')

i always feel so silly getting so emotionally envolved with a game but horizon did hurt i suppose that means the characters are so well crafted that you cant help yourself.
in my mind, shep has Been hit, Shot, Killed even but nothing Hurt her like Horizon.

Indeed, the emotion about both Shepard and Kaidan put me on this Photoshop road. Just to counter the huge amount of stuff out there that's bashing Kaidan as a character, in forums, art and fics etc. I wanted to show him off, as it were, the way he's in my head and that is a compliment to the writers for putting him there in the first place.

One of my Ex boyfriends has been playing Mass effect, (by the way he dumped Ashly for Miranda first chance he got) let Kaidan die and Then proceed To go about saying what a crap character he is.
I felt like telling him that Kaidan Has been a better boyfriend as a game Character than he ever was.
(new boyfriend is very much Nicer and Cosplays a good Kaidan
what i love is that even though he has kind of a really sad history he still turned out to be a well balanced human being (ignoring the horizon incident).

This had me tearing up. As a player I was moved by Shepard and Kaidan's story and seeing this choked me up. I was devastated after Horizon. I can't wait for ME3 so Shepard (mine is named Eve and looks just like the one here) can run back into his arms.

It is the perfect song for Horizon, if you really analyze it. The lyrics are absolutely spot on. And the overall mood of the song couldn't be more perfect.
