Description This is my attempt for a new DA Contest.  These flowers are tansies, called by many names (Bitter Buttons are just one).  Gardeners around the world have transported this plant where ever they can, from Asia to Europe and (where I live) North America.  While many would call this species as "invasive" there is a growing population that see this as an immigrant to the country, and that the environment is formed by many species coming into a new environment. Just look at the coyote, a canine that has moved from the deserts of the Southwest to now living all over North America. This guy was just brought here by boat.

Invasive species can be very destructive to the local flora and fauna, some will play themselves out, like the zebra muscle that invaded the great lakes, they cause a massive amount of damage, wiped out local fish stocks as it took over breeding areas the fish needed, they made walking in the water near impossible as they are literally tiny razor blades that slice you to ribbons if you brush up against them, they had no predators as the local fish had no way to eat their larva as they are barbed and made it impossible for the local fish stocks to eat.

They over whelmed everything, plugging up water intake lines, sinking boats ( by weight build up alone ) and fouling engines, they build up on each other 10 inch deep in some places. They quite literally ate themselves to a point of collapse, they leveled to a degree by wiping their own food sources.

In turn they also cleaned up the great lakes of chemicals and heavy metals in the lakes, as they are filter feeders and they sequestered these elements into their shells. They also let the Gobey fish thrive as it's one of the few fish that eat the muscle, ( other invasive species to the great lakes ). This is one story where nature levels itself out.

However things like Choke weed, the Asian carp,  purple loosestrife are stories where this hasn't happened.

Great photo!

I think to some degree invasive species happen as a normal condition of ever changing environments, ( to a degree )

The question we really need to ask is how much of it is cause by us?

More importantly how we intent to mitigate a means to make it less

a cause of our meddling in the natural forces of nature itself.

Humans are a arrogant species, we believe we are in control of this planet and that we know better then the

billions of years of evolution that came before our mere micro second of existence.

I think you managed to open a dialogue quite nicely, with just a photo and few sentences, I took notice

hopefully others will as well and enter into this conversation

The more people that do this kind of thing the better off we are, as it bring about conscious thought about such subjects.

The world is to full of meaningless distractions holding our attention in places that effect nothing, and count for even less.

It's time the humanity woke up and started do something about what is happening in this world and not spend their lives sleep walking.

To a large degree the Zombie Apocalypse is quite real and it's happening now, it's just not Hollywood's version with brain eating rotten corpses

running about, but more zombie like behavior in that must humans now walk around with a glazed over eyes focused now only a thing called a cell phone

and it is in all respect a cell, it just doesn't have bars for walls.

This a genius photography. I really adore that one, because I saw a lot of flowers in the last few weeks, but this is something different. I really love it <3

Thank you very much. When I saw them I had to photograph them. I have another photo of bitter button and a bee (my computer is acting up at the moment so I am unable to link to it).
