Description Pico Blanco is located in Big Sur California in the 'Ventana Wilderness' Every summer the stream is dammed to make a swimming area for the camp there. A fish ladder was recently constructed to insure that the steelhead and salmon would be able to migrate without interference.

This photo was taken at the swim area.

Looks can be decieving. As my son commented, that water is *cold* swimming there is almost an exercise in masochism.

It *is* a beautiful spot, and they have canoe's and rowboats which are fun to take on the water.

I don't think that sounded right. I hope I didn't give offense. There's *lots* of neat waterfalls out there. This is just a little one. Yosemite has some huge ones, I don't know what's available in the Chicago area, but near Ontario Niagra Falls is pretty awesome. Pay it a visit sometime!

yeah... paying a visit is rather difficult... i can't just go somewhere like Ontario. i mean, i can't just go somewhere like the mall, yet. (no license) so... it would have to be a family trip, and we can't just get up and leave, ja?

Right. Well, start a list of places to visit when you've got control of your own travel arrangements

Thanks! It really is quite beautiful there. I'd like to revisit it and take some panorama shots to show off the breadth of untouched wilderness in the area.

Thanks! I'm now living in Santa Cruz California, hence the beach shots. The ranch shots were taken in the California foothills on the eastern side of the San Joaquin valley, below the Sierras, in the Gold Country. Big Sur is south of Santa Cruz a couple of hours on Highway 1.

I'd agree it is beautiful. I'll be posting some pictures of Yosemite as well, though probably nothing you haven't seen, as Yosemite has got to be *THE* most beautiful place in California, and the most photographed.

I always tell folks that are visiting California that they should see Yosemite, and San Francisco.

Yosemite to see the raw beauty of the state, San Francisco to see the mixed culture.

I've never been to that side of the USA. Absolutely beautiful. I'm anxiously awaiting the photos.

You bet. Nature can be an awesome force, and it's prescence can be felt easily there. The sequoias are also very impressive, the trees have enormous girth. The redwoods, particularly a grove are also very impressive. The Ocean....

Sorry. The only thing missing from where I live now is easy access to snow. And I do miss that every winter, as my early childhood was spent where it snowed every winter....

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I wish now I had taken more pictures, it would have made a great panorama.

FWIW, I shot that picture with my first digital camera, an early point-and-shoot Sony Cybershot model with 3x optical zoom and 3.2 megapixel capacity. Nonetheless I think the shot came out pretty well
