Description Took a whole week and only uploaded today.

The idea behind this is that Mass Effect is the "Star Wars" of this generation (hence the Drew Struzan style composition/layout). I've actually read that ME was more like the "Star Trek" of this generation. If I actually grew up watching the series, then I would have done a more Star Trek style poster. Sadly, I have never fully watched an entire season.

Mass Effect characters all belong to Bioware. Composition and layout of the poster was taken from the original Drew Struzan artwork (which is like one of the greatest posters ever made).

Most Excellent. That would go so well with the story I'm writing.

All digital or is there a bit of traditional media involved (i.e. hand-drawn and then scanned line art)?

Nahhhh, all digital. I drew thumbnails and preliminary sketches on paper though since it's faster than using my extra small bamboo (6x4).

I like this a lot, really love Liara's expression, as well as Ash's.

As for the comparison between Star Wars and Star Trek, well, storywise I would say the universe more closely resembles Star Trek, but I believe the cultural impact, and mass appeal more closely resembles Star Wars. It is the best of both worlds, and something all its own as a result. Simply put, I wouldn't be surprised to hear people saying, "It is the Mass Effect of this generation..." sooner or later.

To be honest, ME completely pwns Star Wars and Star Trek together if you ask me just for the mere fact that ME is real Sci-Fi while both Star Wars and Star Trek are futuristic epics only (though Star Wars is the first thing most people think about when they hear "Sci Fi") .

Anyway, great work, I love your poster. Looking forward to see if you'll make more

Thanks!

I enjoy Mass Effect for the way that they built the universe. The Star Wars universe and the Star Trek universe are also very elaborate. I really respect the creators of these series so I can't really say that one series is better than the other.

Most people think of Star Wars when they hear Sci-Fi mainly because they had such a big impact on their lives (and because Star Wars was released . I'm pretty sure that the writers and developers of Mass Effect grew up loving Star Wars, though.

Yes of course, I'm just saying that it's a very general assumption to consider Star Wars Sci-Fi just because there's futuristic/space elements involved . It's far easier to rely a lot in fantasy to explain things that happen just for the sake of it, than trying to elaborate reasons to explain how things happen/work in that universe in base of scientific, logic and fiction's knowledge (like ME does). One of the reasons why I really find it the winner amongst them.

Anyway, cheers!

Because Star Wars is just fantasy in space. At least with Trek they try to make it scienceish even if it's still a bit like fantasy but with sciency terms (zomg antimatter dilithium containment manifold!!) versus fantasy (spells, wizards, magic) even if sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Also Mass Effect is awesome for being more grounded in reality.

Very impressive, personally wouldn't have given Kadian such a big spot but each to their own.
Coloring and lining are superb!

JGoogt In reply to Dutchkat [2011-08-16 00:46:56 +0000 UTC]

Ah, thanks, dude. I actually put Kaidan, Ashley and Liara on top since, well, they are your love interests during the game. I actually let Kaidan die since he didn't seem that cool (I played the french version of ME and his voice wasn't that nice). HOWEVER, in a MASS EFFECT film, I'm hoping that they cast someone with a degree in bad-assery.

Dutchkat In reply to JGoogt [2011-08-16 16:00:49 +0000 UTC]

Well that makes sense, do hope if the film project pulls trough Kadian will be much more of an interesting character than in the game.......Cause I also made him atomic dust at first chance

Yep! That's the plan! Since Mass Effect 3 is still in development, I was actually thinking of doing Dragon Age posters instead.
