**This bird was a natural death, found by me near an active rook colony**
Sometime late last year we were driving through a nearby town I spotted a huge crow dead by the side of the road. The trees there are always filled with all sorts of rooks and other crows. It's a great place to find feathers when the birds are moulting
I was half hoping for a raven but it was actually a yearling rook! I didn't know this until I found him but rooks don't get their characteristic grey bald patch under their beaks until they are a bit older.
Since it was in the middle of town and I didn't have time to wrap up a big bird with big stiff wings and sharp claws (he was probably a few days old so I really didn't want a leak happening in my bag!) I waited for a quiet moment, walked by and quickly nipped off his head before strolling away with it in a plastic dog poop baggie. Hopefully no one saw that...
Took me this long to get it rotted down to my standards over winter, I didn't skin the head because I was lazy and I regretted it later when rotting started taking ages... Lots of skulls coming out of the peroxide recently though so stay tuned!
